'OUTRAGE' AFTER HILLARY LIMITED TO WALK-ON ROLE AT DEM CONVENTION...
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The former chairwoman of the New York State Democratic Party on Wednesday called it "a total outrage" and "very stupid" that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has not been offered a prominent speaking role at the Democratic National Convention.

"It's a slap in the face, not personally for Hillary Clinton, but for every woman in the Democratic Party and every woman in America," said Judith Hope, a major party fund-raiser.

Hope said she would appeal to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry to "correct this omission" and would send an e-mail message to more than 1,000 New York women - "many of them major donors to the Kerry campaign" - complaining about the slight.

The Kerry campaign had no immediate comment.

On Tuesday, Kerry aides announced the prime-time speaking lineup for the four-day convention in Boston that begins July 26, a list that included former Presidents Carter and Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore and Christie Vilsack, wife of Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack. The list did not include the former first lady and New York's junior senator.

Asked about Clinton's role Tuesday, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, the convention chairman, said, "Senator Clinton will speak also. She's a major star in the party."

But later, convention officials said Clinton would appear at the convention's opening night as part of a special segment featuring all the women senators, but she was not expected to speak.

"To include the wife of the governor of Iowa, who I'm sure is a wonderful woman, and to not include Hillary Clinton is just such a glaring injustice," Hope said.

"It is, frankly, very stupid," she added.

In May, Kerry campaign officials had said both President Clinton and his wife would play prominent roles at the convention.

"It's a total outrage," Hope said. "Women all over New York state and all over America are being asked to carry a very heavy responsibility for winning this election for the Democrats."

Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines had little to say Wednesday, simply commenting that Clinton is looking forward to attending the convention and working hard for the Democratic ticket of Kerry and John Edwards.

Clinton has been campaigning across the country for Kerry and has become one of the campaign's major fund-raising attractions.

"Hillary Clinton has been a team player for this ticket from Day One," Hope said.

If Kerry falters this year, Edwards and Clinton would be seen as the top candidates for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

There are so many things I'm outraged about. This is not on my list. We are killing people and our soldiers are dieing. Folks can't feed their children or afford health care. Focus on priorities.

25. Well that'll teach her to shoot her mouth off, won't it?
I think perhaps it is a larger issue than the ten or fifteen minutes of prime time thats involved. There are an awful lot of us who are hoping we live long enough to see a woman run for president, and we have loved her since she obviously said in 1990 - sure, I'll take the crap over the health care issue if we can just get universal health care. And boy did she - she paid big time with the label of pushy bitch she carries today.

So its kind of an insult to all of her fans to have her ignored; and an insult to how high a price she has paid to support this damned party. She stood by that republican idiot who couldn't keep his pants zipped from the day jennifer flowers went bumping and grinding to a mike. Clinton might very well have lost or have been impeached if she had not sucked it up. This party owes her.

who do you and others think YOU are to be wearing the mantle of outrage for her? Hillary is a team player who knows how important it is to get the same people who made her life hell for eight years out of office, for the good of the country. Even if she WAS offended do you think she's going to let anyone know that? Get real.

I don't think the original author said anything about Hillary being outraged - she said she was, and I can understand her feelings. No one has to give us our right to our feelings and I don't know or care what Hillary thinks.

Why, just today, that bowtie-wearin', helmet-haired friend of the people, Tucker Carlson was screaming about his "outrage" that Hillary wasn't speaking.

My answer? Hillary is too busy working overtime to make sure the GOP doesn't criminalize the birth control pill to take time out to speak at the convention.

And besides, Bill is speaking so it would be overkill to let them both speak. Letting Hillary speak and overlooking Boxer, Feinstein who have both been Senators longer would only draw attention to the Clintons and not Kerry. This is the same bs being spread by talking heads that they are outraged that Kerry didn't pick a woman or a black person to run with him. they're baiting us with this shit to start us infighting.

30. This is just another example of ringing the Clinton Bell.
There is a large group of ignorant and hypocritical hate mongers with a sociopathic hatred of the Clintons that the republican party manipulates and exploits by "ringing the Clinton Bell." This causes these Pavlovian Clinton-haters to start salivating and rise up on their hind legs barking and drooling with hatred. This group of ignorant and hypocritical hate mongers is a significant portion of the republican base and it needs its insatiable hunger for hatred fed on a fairly regular basis. The RNC considers these people comically pathetic but easily manipulated and very reliable.

34. Bollocks! They can find real Democratic women to speak
The Clintons themselves are aberrations. New Democrats under their tutelage can't get elected dogcatcher. People are sick and tired of a party that promises more of the business as usual that has kept them falling farther behind economically every year. That's why they keep voting GOP. At least the GOP dangles tax cuts in front of them.

It might be nice to have the last legally elected president speak. However, I find little outrage in denying his wife a grandstanding position.

If Hillary Clinton is ever on the top spot of the ticket, I'll be voting Green, or Socialist, or Labor, or anything else. I will not be voting for more rotten procorporate, antilabor economic policy once we're rid of Bush.

In all seriousness I don't give a hoot that Hillary isn't speaking at the Democratic Convention. I honestly am glad that she isn't speaking because whatever she was to say would outshine anything that actually goes on, simply because her last name is Clinton. And we all know how the right feels about the Clintons... and I think it would be silly to bring her out so that she'd outshine everything else. (That in a sorta twisted way is a compliment to her personality and personal abilities. ;))

Since when is Hillary some sort of torch-bearer for progressive ideals?

Last I checked she was a former Goldwater girl with a voting record a couple ticks left of Zell's. I don't think she deserves the demonization the right gives her, but just because they despise her (mostly for being a woman with a brain and a voice) doesn't mean we should idolize her.

She just happens to be one of the biggest democrat celebrities. I'm fine if she speaks, fine if she doesn't.

Bill's speech will undoubtedly be much more important in cheering on the ticket. Hillary bugs at least as many people as she pleases. Even the people who hate Clinton - a lot of them still like him in spite of themselves. He's the guy you hate to love!
