They knew it was going to lose, or they would have gone back to vote.

2. no one voted on the amendment |
|
because it wasnt a vote, it was a procedural thing.
No need for Kerry or Edwards to come all the way to DC for that.

5. It needed 67 "yes" votes to move forward |
|
so NOT voting for it is not a huge deal...

6. They didn't vote on cloture |
|
The resolution to kill the debate. It wasn't the amendment itself. And their votes didn't matter -- there wasn't enough support to begin with.
(Both say they would have voted against it, if it had come to an actual vote.)

They knew their votes weren't really needed, but the Republicans wanted to get them on record as being against protecting marriage.
Now the Republicans get to further criticize their voting records.
How come no one questions how much George W. Bush did his job as governor while he was running in 2000 or his job now while campaigning?

9. The media said they would... would have been a nice way to refute * |

and his claim Kerry missed 2/3rds the votes he should have voted in...
(we can either counter * with accusations against him, or make * look even dumber by responding. I favor Kerry respond to *'s idiocy rather than to encourage more of it.)
I saw the report on TV on Sunday that they would vote. I wonder what changed between then and now.

...that the idea of Bush/Cheney trying to use this horseshit certain loser of a cultural wedge issue as a means to handicap Kerry and Edwards a supreme act of hypocrisy? I mean, the guys who tried pushing the damned thing get irate because the opposition didn't even bother showing up to have a floor fight only they and their proxies wanted to attend...those guys, trying to use Kerry-Edwards not appearing for a spitting match on the Senate floor, against them...
Wow, I'm not a big believer in the mental superiority of the average American voter...they seem to really believe we have a 20 minute attention span and the intelligence of a gnat. And if Bush manages to steal another term, we'll have proven them right in their assumptions.
