Dumping Cheney might helps us more than * |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 07:27 PM by ButterflyBlood
first of all, it's unlikely he could get any of the mentioned names. McCain wouldn't accept (also worth pointing out that if he pulls a Lieberman and they win they'd lose his Senate seat to a Democrat), Powell wants out of this administration, and Giuliani would never be tolerated by the religious right as a pro-choice Republican who makes Bill Clinton look like a prime example of maritial fidelity.
That doesn't really leave him with much, and whoever he did go with wouldn't help anymore than Cheney, plus it would look like an unstable ticket and * as a flip-flopper. That's why I doubt Cheney's going anywhere, in addition to the fact that he's the actual president.
I wouldn't be too suprised if this is just a publicity stunt and distraction like all that idiotic Kerry/McCain nonsense.

2. Not sure it's a publicity stunt.... |
|
More likely, someone gave a NY Times reporter an intentionally bad tip which wasn't checked out adequately in order to discredit the Times, once again, but with the purpose of being able to discount its reporting later.
Nixon people did this to the WP during Watergate, and when the insufficiently-sourced story proved to be untrue, it did temporarily damage the WP's credibility. The Times has admitted to a lot of sloppiness lately, and this could be an attempt on the part of the GOP to reinforce the notion that the Times' reporting is unreliable.

3. If he tried for Powell |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 07:39 PM by Peachhead22
He'd lose half his administration (Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Feith, etc), totally alienate the AEI, and a good portion of his base.
Plus, he'd look like the ultimate flip-flopper.

6. Bush doesn't choose anyone. All the choosing is done by people |
|
behind the scenes. They picked him because he could appeal to their small base of voters who are not in on the theft of our money, vote, rights, future, and hope in our country. Do not think that Bush does anything except take lessons about the issues, practice speeches, and improve his ear-piece listening and delivery when he is supposed to be speaking spontaneously. Bush is a marionette - many people pull the strings or tell the string pullers which strings to pull. He is a front man. He makes no decision except those they grant him so that the allusion stays alive and he is heartened to keep going and expecially when his rewards are generous - getting time to play video games and dig for bugs.
