yee haa pissed off a fundie today
told him that history shows christianity as being the most brutal, oppressive religious hierarchy ever. xtians have spent most of their 2000yr history in persecuting and killing those who dont agree.
Usual cliched answer we did it to save souls. Where does jesus say that? Go forth and kill so they may be saved? No but the bible says - never mind the bible you believe in jesus and its his words you should follow.
Besides let me point out a fact to you. At the time of the moorish conquests in spain (had to tell him who the moors were - doesnt believe they existed arent listed in the bible)moorish cities had clean running water and sewer systems. Their schools taught science, reading and writing, while the xtian cities bred filth, ignorance, intolerance and hatred.
Moorish cities allowed anyone to live with them as long as they didnt cause trouble. Xtian cities would have jews and others who thought differently, placed in the rack or burned at the stake.
And where does jesus say that religious leaders should live in splendor (pope and falwell for example) while the rest of us slowly die of malnutrition?
Isnt that kind of behavior something jesus condemmed?
And i dont believe jesus said anything about judging others being a good thing.
well by this time i could see him envisioning me at the stake.

5. One of my fave counters to raging fundimentalists
(and I have been confronted by numbers of them) is Luke 6:30.

Luke 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

It is a simle act to have them read this bit and then start asking them for things. I have only met one fundimentalist that agreed to give me what I asked for(I did not take it). The typical response is to go defensive and seak an escape route as fast as possible.

7. Next time you run into your freeper - tell him that something he
said made your come to fully appreciate a text from the new testament.
In response to his killing to save souls simply point out that when Jesus was arrested and knew he was about to be put to death, he didn't fight and he would not allow his disciples to fight (one actually cut off the ear of the high priests servant).

Jesus told them then "Put your sword back in its place," "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword."

These creepy fundies forgot some of the most important passages from the book they claim to follow so devotedly. Jesus was a liberal!

==================

Matthew 26

51Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
52"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

10. "We Did It To Save Souls"...

Hmmm. How about I come over to this guys' house, eat all the food in his fridge, empty out his bank account, corrupt his daughters, spill beer on his couch as I watch porno until 4 AM, then burn the place down as I'm leaving?

Hey! I did it to help you, you thankless bastard!

12. A typical fundie response would be:
"How do you know all that happened if you didn't see it or hear it yourself." They have been taught to deny anything they personally haven't witnessed. Seriously, I was asked that about Cheney's swearing at Leahy. I usually make a comment that makes them look stupid, like "I can't see gravity either, but I know it exists."

14. Fundies don't like it when you tell them that Jesus
was a liberal, either.

Would Jesus love a liberal? You bet!

15. I love to bring up with fundies
The passage where Christ says "Give to God that which is Gods, and give to Caeser that which is Caesers" (or words to that effect). A GREAT argument for the separation of church and state.
