Poll question: Did Dennis Kucinich sell out Anti-war Democrats?
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0714-12.htm

Democratic Party delegates supporting presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich struck a deal this weekend with representatives of John Kerry over the Party's stance on the Iraq war. The deal happened this weekend at the Democratic Party Platform convention in Miami. Kucinich's delegates withdrew their proposal for a quick withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

The critical paragraph was worked out in negotiations led by Sandy Berger, who was President Bill Clinton's national security adviser.

It pledges to remove American troops "when appropriate so that the military support needed by a sovereign Iraqi government will no longer be seen as the direct continuation of an American military presence."

I STRONGLY suggest reading the linked article before you vote...

2. I voted for Kucinich, but he didn't win. He didn't come close.
I'm sure Kucinich did what he could.

4. If this is another bash-Dennis thread, please give it a rest already.
The man was an inspiration, and had the spine to speak what others were unwilling to speak.

For that you would fault him?

First he is vilified because he stayed in the race, speaking about the war and going against the mainstream (and pleasing his supporters with his words!) Thread after thread on DU criticized Dennis for his tenacity, even though it was explained over and over and over and over and over ad nauseum that he was staying in through the rest of the race (which he did!), and would support the Dem nominee at the end, which he is doing. He was criticized for that, even though that is the American way, and now he's criticized for ..........selling out???

Would all of you Dennis-bashers just be honest, and say what it is you REALLY object to, instead of all these red herrings?

5. I'm going to wait and hear from DK.
I voted for DK at our caucus, and I absolutely support him now. He IS my voice at the convention. I'm sure he also knows how deadly important it is to defeat the bush* fanatics in Nov.

6. Kucinich sold out nobody
Did you notice the world "deal" in the piece. Deal. Sometimes politicians do that. I know that the 100% percent Pure-Ideal(tm) never deal, confining their effect on electoral and legislative processes to whining and complaining, which is perfectly fine with me.

Being an excellent and moral politician, Dennis Kucinich probably got every bit of what his performance in the election earned him, which is to say, not that much--but how many other people had the guts to stick it out in a race, providing a healthy dose of conscience to the primary.

I know this thread is going to generate a bunch of people, like the boneheads who work at common dreams, who are "disillusioned" with Kucinich who, as it turns out, is not as the walking patron of ideologues, but rather a Democratic pol.

God it must suck demand that politicians be as pure as some demand them to be. Always disappointed, going through a lifetime of griping rather than improving.

8. No one sold out
The idea is to stop American imperial and corporate conquests and actually fulfill the ideals of our national purpose with as little American presence as possible(since the Bushistas have ruined our standing there mainly). IF it becomes Mr. Kerry's war for Halliburton interests we will have been sold out.

If you had to trust someone to lead us out of this mess without perpetrating another catastrophe on that abused region who would you vote for? I would be shocked if Kerry did not live up to the spirit of this plank made difficult by Bush and no one else.

9. I was disappointed in the outcome
but I must say I was turned off by Amy Goodman's self-righteous tone this morning with Mr. Kucinich. He IS a Democrat, and he IS a politician. What the hell did she expect? He stayed in the race, and he fought a good fight.

Plus it was below-the-belt for her to drag out that comment by the Green Party candidate. Dirty pool.

10. Hey, she's a reporter doing what reporters are SUPPOSED TO DO!
Ask tough questions!

I am so sick of all this "reporters should be polite and not make waves" bullshit.
