. . .I just saw it in a repeat. He grew up in Arlington Heights and there is a move to draft Ted Nugent. . .LOL, how desperate are these MF's?

ON EDIT: Thanks to newsjock for the link!

Ditka Out Of The Running
Ditka Out; Nugent In?
Zack Newmark, NBC 5

CHICAGO -- Former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka will not run for the U.S. Senate, he announced at a news conference Wednesday evening. He said he had too many commitments to pursue the seat.

... Gary Skoien, the chairman of the Cook County GOP, said there are still several replacements being considered, including rock star Ted Nugent.

1. Nugent's lived in Michigan for decades.
Even when he was a big time rockstar, Michigan remained his primary home. So I don't see him moving out of the state. Though I wouldn't put it past him to run for office there eventually.

Not to mention the IQ test

Doesn't he live in Texas some place? I don't care if he WAS born in Arlington Hgts, the law requires residency...

I LOVE the smell of cooked Illinois elephants!!!

12. Too bad Jeffrey Dahmer is no longer available
He had world class outstanding name recognition.

And his necrophilia, anthropophagy and other bizarre activities with the bodies of his victims, including cannibalism could test the creative abilities of the GOP spin doctors, maybe blaming the victims for allowing themselves to be groped and handled before being decapitated. Or Rush Limbaugh could simply frame Dahmer's ritualistic dismemberments as a sort of fun-loving private fraternity hazing prank.

about the Brewers fans, those poor beer swilling bumpkins I think he referred to them as. Then the next editorial he apologized to Milwaukee, he said he was bad with directions and he was really thinking about Indianapolis when he said the Brewer fans.

Royko is one guy I miss reading.

36. link to story on his VietNam physical exam -- Hold your nose!
According to a widely-circulated account which we’ve never seen refuted, here’s how Mr. Nugent dodged the draft. "He claims that 30 days before his draft board physical, he stopped all forms of personal hygiene. The last 10 days, he ingested nothing but Vienna sausages and Pepsi; and a week before his physical, he stopped using bathrooms altogether, virtually living inside pants caked with his own excrement, stained by his urine. That spectacle won Nugent a deferment, he says. ‘... but if I would have gone over there, I'd have been killed, or I'd have killed, or I'd killed all the hippies in the foxholes...I would have killed everybody.’” -- Detroit Free Press Magazine, July 15, 1990

Now, those of you against hunting won't think the better of him for this, and anyone who's heard him talk for more than a minute knows he's a serious asshole, but I do give him props for being a bow hunter rather than a rifle hunter (which he may also do, I don't know for sure). Anyone can gun down wildlife, but bow hunting is both very difficult and much closer to an even match (if you ever consider hunting an even match). If he wasn't such a dick otherwise, I'd almost respect him.

Being, like, a 60s/70s era rock star, you can bet there's nothing unchaste or unsavory in his background--another clear advantage for this candidate.

Course the fact that he's a 3rd rate, cliche-ridden guitar banger of no particular distinction might be held against him. That and his opinions, of course.

60. but don't forget
rightwingers are always ready/willing to forgive other rightwingers for their debaucheries. In fact, few things seem to tug at their heartstrings more than wingnut "repentance." Then they fall all over themselves to band together to stick up for the poor sinner (pedophile/adulterer/bestiaphile/drunk/oxycontinaddict.)

If Ted were to really run for office, he could simply "find the Lord."
Thus, putting past indescretions to work for him.

65. Send in the Clowns
Here's Billmon on the news:

The land of Lincoln is starting to look more like the land of losers - at least for the party of Lincoln. Now that Mike Ditka has come to his senses ("I need this like I need 'Refrigerator' Perry to sit on my face.") the Republicans are reportedly trying to coax guns-'n-poses rocker Ted Nuget into being their standard bearer in this year's Senate race:

"He grew up in Arlington Heights. He went to St. Viator High School," Cook County Republican Chair Gary Skoien told WMAQ. "He has more connection to Illinois than Hillary Clinton had to New York, and he's been a very articulate spokesperson on constitutional issues. He would be a very interesting candidate."

Nugent couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday night.

(Via Taegan Goddard's Political Wire)

So if that idea doesn't work out, I wonder who's next on the party's celebrity C list? Ronald McDonald?
