Anybody else think that Edwards Makes Kerry Look MORE Presidential?
Don't take this as a rap on Edwards. I'm a big fan of his and am VERY glad he's the running mate. And I think he really enhances the ticket in many ways. He's smart, personable, an excellent campaigner with a southern charm that will play well in some Southern states and in the Midwest.

But the other way in which he enhances Kerry is that he makes Kerry look more presidential. Some mediawhores have claimed that Edwards outshines Kerry, but I'm not so sure. Edwards comes across as the bright-eyed, smart wunderkid who you really like but who needs a little ripening. The contrast between him and Kerry works perfectly, and works BOTH WAYS. Kerry comes off as an amiable if serious and reserved statesman, as a stately leader, and as a mentor to another future President. Kerry LOOKS like the President next to Edwards. Hell, he looks like a President next to Shrub.

Am I alone?

1. I agree. I hope, though, Edwards helps Kerry lighten up some.
Edwards should also help prep Kerry for the debates.

2. I agree
They have this kind of big brother/little brother dynamic going. Kerry looks like the wiser, older veteran guiding the optimistic youth. Plus, the presence of Edwards has lightened Kerry as well. He seems looser; I don't think they can stick him with the "stiff"charges like they did to Al Gore.

3. Kerry was always seen as Presidential because of his physical appearance
being a lot taller than most people doesn't hurt. i remember the debates and he would just tower over the rest of them. you could especially see it in the line up pictures of all the candidates. and he has the hair.

4. Barry Bostwick looks presidential.
A fine political record as mayor of New York City, too.

I wonder he'd look like with Edwards at his side ...

5. I agree - I like Kerry's choice - makes me actually feel a lot better
about voting for him because he chose who I would have picked.

9. Yes. And also more animated and down to earth...
That's a good thing.

10. I kind of like the Batman thing going on.
Kerry as the enigmatic, quiet millionaire, and Edwards as his young ward!

Of course, I just think all things Batman (besides Adam West and the Superfriends, although they're amusing in their own right) kick ass.

Still, the balance of elder liberal statesman (I'm still a bit skeevy on Kerry, but I'm just paranoid), and idealistic young senator seems pretty damn fine.

11. Yes. Edwards' presence seems to sharpen Kerry's game...
I think Edwards is absolutely terrific, but I give big points to Kerry for not being afraid to allow Edwards' personable style to come to the fore, and for learning from it and even warming up along with it.

12. Yeah, I guess so. Kerry seems "lighter" because of him but
sometimes I actually feel like Edwards "upstages" Kerry with his spunk. Not a critizism, just an observation. Secretly, I kinda like Edwards better.... (eek)

13. I totally agree
and have had the same thoughts since Edwards was announced. This former Dean supporter is VERY happy Edwards is the VP nominee.

Here's to Kerry and Edwards in office this January.
