Goebbels: "opponents...grow suddenly silent when it actually happens. "
We watched "Hitler's Pawn" on HBO tonight. To give away my age somewhat, I remember the news clips at the movies..."Eyes and Ears of the World?" I think? I was very young, but it was too awful a time not to remember....the pictures in Life Magazine were graphic.

I have been told here so many times to be positive, the election will be ok. I repeat again that we have donated a good bit to Kerry, and we will vote for him. We get upset, but we know what we have to do. However, when I see the cheery posts, I get nervous.

It is not about the candidates, except in the fact that they did not speak out on the war. It is about harkening back to history and what Goebbels said on New Year's Day 1940/41. There is being cheery and confident, and then there is the reality that this bunch is totally ruthless in many ways. I notice a lot of people feel the way I do. It is genuine concern, and we can not afford to forget. (Disclaimer: this post is not about Dean...do not take it that way.)
(Disclaimer 2: how sad I have to post that.)

The New Year 1940-41
by Joseph Goebbels

SNIP..."Our opponents have always talked more than we do. Before something happens they talk a lot, only to grow suddenly silent when it actually happens. When things did not seem to be happening, they made the grandest threats against us. It has always been their fate to make the same mistake our enemies did during our struggle for power — they failed to take the Führer seriously. They ignored his warnings and when he was silent concluded that he did not know what to say or do. Three weeks before Hitler became chancellor, the then chancellor said that Hitler's day was over. Schuschnigg railed against the Reich two hours before he was driven in shame from the chancellor's palace in Vienna. Benesch had already packed his bags when he maintained that he had a plan to deal with the apparently hopeless situation. Polish statesmen dreamed of a victory at the gates of Berlin as German guns were already shelling Warsaw. Two months before France's collapse Monsieur Reynaud innocently showed diplomats a map of how Germany would be divided into separate parts. Is Mr. Churchill doing any different today? In his speeches and in the newspapers he explains the peace conditions for Germany once the war is over, while the British Isles in fact are bleeding heavily and gasping for breath. From our beginnings to the present, National Socialism's enemies seem determined to prove the accuracy of the old proverb: "The Lord makes blind those whom he wishes to punish."

The homeland and the front form a big family as we bid farewell to a year that was full of challenges, but also of big historical victories. The German people bows in praise before the Almighty, who has so clearly blessed us in the past year by standing by us in battle and crowning our weapons with victory. He knows that we are waging this war for a better peace, that we are fighting for the happiness of people who have so often been oppressed by their governments."

1. We Can't be Silent If They Steal the Election Again
Even if it takes riots to get our voices heard, we can't be silenced.

2. I just saw "Hijacking Catastrophe"
I highly recommend it.

The media does some powerful spin, the advertisers/marketers get better at what they do all the time.

I make no assumptions.

SNIPl..."New Documentary About Neocon Agenda & Bush Administration's Response to 9/11

Now Available On DVD & VHS

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Media Education Foundation
(MEF), a leading producer and distributor of educational films, has released a
powerful new documentary on DVD and VHS about the neoconservative roots and
political effects of the Bush Administration's response to the 9/11 terror
attacks.
Narrated by Julian Bond, and featuring interviews with government insiders
and two dozen of the most prominent political commentators in the country,
Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of American Empire places the
emergence of the so-called Bush Doctrine within the context of a two-decade
struggle by neoconservatives to radically increase defense spending while
radically transforming the global, post-cold war order by means of military
force.
"The positive attention Michael Moore's been getting with Fahrenheit 9/11
tells us that a lot of people are ready to question the radical turn this
country has taken since 9/11, without fear of being labeled soft or
unpatriotic," said Jeremy Earp, who wrote and directed the documentary with
Sut Jhally. "That's good news, but it's not enough. There's no doubt Moore's
about to come under intense personal attack. And by delivering a storehouse of
heavy hitters who understand, as Moore does, that dissent is an American
tradition, we're hoping to help keep attention focused on policies, not on
personalities."

4. man...I guess that makes Goebbels quite an optimist!
The homeland and the front form a big family as we bid farewell to a year that was full of challenges, but also of big historical victories. The German people bows in praise before the Almighty, who has so clearly blessed us in the past year by standing by us in battle and crowning our weapons with victory. He knows that we are waging this war for a better peace, that we are fighting for the happiness of people who have so often been oppressed by their governments.

But I love the proverb he used.."The Lord makes blind those whom he wishes to punish."

5. I see one major difference here...
I imagine in 1940/1 the Germans were marching triumphantly across Europe, having recovered from defeat and humiliation. This administration has taken the country from wealth and pride down the path to bankruptcy and humiliation.

There'll be intimidation for a while, but I would bet that eventually these guys are going to be living their 'golden years' in Argentina.

7. Goebbels: "We must be either friends or enemies"
September 11, 1940
http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/goeb31.htm

SNIP...."Do not think that, as we bring about a certain order in Europe, we do it to harm individual nations. The freedom of individual countries must be brought in harmony with the conditions of the present and with simple questions of practicality. Just as a member of a family does not have the right to disturb everyone else's peace, an individual nation does not have the right to resist the larger order.

We have never intended to promote this ordering or reordering process by force. Although we are Germans, we do not wish to injure the economic, cultural or social characteristics of the Bavarians or Saxons. It is no more in our interest to injure those, say, of the Czech people. However, the two peoples must understand each other. We must be either friends or enemies. As I believe you know well from history, the Germans can be terrible enemies, or good friends. We can extend our hand to a friend and work with him. We can also destroy an enemy...."END SNIP

Well now, just a wee bit of rewording...and you know what I mean.

9. I hope the Lord opens eyes to what 4 more of shrub et al means.
I think we, the people will. 1964: goldwater was seen as a would be war president and was swept. Then lbj lied and we missed a chance to build...you know..a greater society.

adding to that, the debt ceiling will be hit before the election.

http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/ if this tangent war is so right, then why not pay for it now? pretty soon the budget will have two items: defense and interest on the debt

irregardless of how one feels about the reasons for this tangent war, it's planning and conduct have burnt too many of the warm fuzzies we had going for us in the "original" war on terror. shrub et al blew a chance to show the world that the current superpower did not have to act like a bully.

wage peace

Bush is a poser, he allows other people to act.

Kerry is a man of action. He'll take the steps necessary to protect our nation.

17. Do Something SEND THIS : HIGH CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS

Here is a suggested letter or guide of the issues to send out to your congressmen and senators. Use it or change as you like, but please send it . The Plame outing is our avenue to have Bush &Cheney removed since outing a covert CIA agent and opertation is criminally punishable and they have both consulted criminal attorneys. Send it to your Congress persons, Letters to The Editor, news stations too and to your friends to send it on.

This may be our one chance to stop the destruction of the Constitution by this misadministration.

Below the letter are addresses of media, and congress. Good luck to us all.

SUGGESTED LETTER TO MEDIA AND CONGRESS

Dear ____________

Concerning Time magazine's Joe Klein's July 5 article, page 21 revealed that Valerie Plame was "active in a sting operation involving the trafficking of Weapons of Mass Destruction components"" when her identity was exposed by the White House. It also said" Only a high-ranking official could have had access to the knowledge" that Valerie Plame was a covert CIA agent.

1) Our study group has found that Vice President Cheney since 1995 as CEO of Halliburton was fined 1.2 milion dollars for illegal sales of similar components to Libya. Shortly before becoming Vice President he bitterly assailed US policy against selling such components to Syrria and Iran, which apparently hurt Halliburton's bottom line.

2) Our study group has also found that there is an investigation of Vice President Cheney in other countries for illegal bribery and various other offenses connected to Halliburton as well as paying amounts to secret Swiss bank accounts

3)The Atomic Energy Commission has said a North American company is one of 20 being investigated for black market sales of WMD materials.

Our study group suspects there is more to the White House revealing Valerie Plame's covert CIA status since the Republicans refuse to hold investigations on the matter.

Frankly, it would appear to us that possibly Valerie Plame was stopped in her tracks and the CIA sting operation was exposed because it was coming close to discovering another violation of the laws by our own Vice President and the Hallibuton company he has awarded billions of US taxpayer dollars to in non-bid contracts.

There is a question of where the Vice President's and President's loyalty lies: to their Corporate friends and company's bottom line or to the security and wellbeing of the America.n people?

In any case, the exposure of Valerie Plame by the White House was and is treasonous.

The responsibility of the Media and Congress is to expose these wrong doings, investigate and safeguard against this type of occurrence for the American people.

WHY are you not fulfilling your role to me, to my study group, and the rest of the American people in this country and WHEN will you start ?

Sincerely

20. A friendly invitation: Join us or else.
SNIP..."You live there, we live here. Only a vast natural catastrophe that destroyed our people could change the present situation. Since that is not likely, we will have to get along. Whether we like each other or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that we want to give the millions of Europe a common basis and a common ideal. England has until now resisted this ideal. England has attempted to keep Europe in disorder, since it saw that as the best defense of its island existence. But it is falling under the gigantic blows of our army. Once it falls, we will have the chance to bring peace to Europe. You are warmly invited to join us."

22. Found this comparison at Info Clearinghouse. Unreal. Perle, Goebbels.
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4433.htm

Richard Perle, policy advisor to G.W. Bush, 2001

"No stages. This is total war. We are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out there. All this talk about first we are going to do Afghanistan, then we will do Iraq, then we take a look around and see how things stand. That is entirely the wrong way to go about it ... If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely, and we don't try to ... piece together clever diplomatic solutions ... but just wage a total war against these tyrants, I think we will do very well. Our children will sing great songs about us years from now." ---

- Richard Perle, policy advisor to G.W. Bush, 2001
http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=11938

Joseph Goebbels, 1943

So total war is the demand of the hour. We must put an end to the bourgeois attitude which we have also seen in this war: Wash my back, but don't get me wet! The danger facing us is enormous. The efforts we take to meet it must be just as enormous. The time has come to remove the gloves! We must use our fists now! There is no excuse for only superficially and carelessly making use of the war potential at home and throughout Europe. We must use the full resources, as quickly and thoroughly as it is organizationally and practically possible. Unnecessary concern is wholly out of place. The future of Europe hangs on our success in the East! We are ready to defend it! The German people are shedding their most valuable blood in this battle. The rest of Europe should at least work to support us. Those who do not understand this fight today will thank us on bended knee tomorrow that we took it!

- Joseph Goebbels, 1943
http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/goeb36.htm

ALSO read the first two speeches this site compares. I don't want to post them. Just read them.
