Novak gets cocky GOES AFTER WILSON. . .please indict someone SOON!
Wilson contradictions leave Democrat senators speechless

July 15, 2004

BY ROBERT NOVAK SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

Like Sherlock Holmes' dog that did not bark, the most remarkable aspect of last week's Senate Intelligence Committee report is what its Democratic members did not say. They did not dissent from the committee's findings that Iraq apparently asked about buying yellowcake uranium from Niger. They neither agreed to a conclusion that former diplomat Joseph Wilson was suggested for a mission to Niger by his CIA employee wife nor defended his statements to the contrary.

Wilson's activities constituted the only aspects of the yearlong investigation for which the committee's Republican chairman, Sen. Pat Roberts, was unable to win unanimous agreement. According to committee sources, Roberts felt Wilson had been such a ''cause celebre'' for Democrats that they could not face the facts about him.

For a year, Democrats have been belaboring President Bush about 16 words in his 2003 State of the Union address in which he reported Saddam Hussein's attempt to buy uranium from Africa, based on British information. Wilson has been lionized in liberal circles for allegedly contradicting this information on a CIA mission and then being punished as a truth-teller. Now, for committee Democrats, it is as though the Niger question and Joe Wilson have vanished from the Earth.

2. Does Novak have immunity from prosecution?
He's the one that put Wilson's wife's name in his column. That is a felony and he knew he was breaking the law when he did it. We may not be able to prove who in the White House or Cheney's office leaked her name but we do know who made it public knowledge. Why hasn't this treasonous bastard been arrested?

Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan indicted

BY KEVIN MCDERMOTT

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

CHICAGO - (KRT) - Former Gov. George H. Ryan spent more than a decade looting Illinois' taxpayers for himself and his friends and family, overseeing a brazen "pattern of corruption" that included sweetheart deals for state leases, kickbacks on state contracts, extortion, theft and tax evasion, the federal government alleged in a sweeping indictment Wednesday.

The indictment alleges that Ryan personally engaged in racketeering, mail fraud, tax fraud and lying to investigators. He is also accused of allowing friends to use the power of his office to demand kickbacks from state contractors and secure lavish vacations and cash for Ryan and his family.

"What we're alleging in the indictment is, basically, the state of Illinois was for sale," U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said.

The allegations, if proven, could land the 69-year-old Republican former governor in prison for decades. It would also complete one of the most dramatic falls in Illinois political history - of a man who spent 30 years climbing to the pinnacle of public life, has been lauded worldwide for his work on death penalty reform and just a few months ago was under serious consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Just guessing here. But this wouldn't be the first time kkkarl rove has fed Novak some dirt and he's used it. It happened in Texas, too. So Novak may have assumed this was just another phone call with just another fun, wicked, juicy tidbit from just another good, regular, reliable source. Just another day at the races, don'tcha know? I don't think it ever occurred to him that he overstepped (same for the rest of this felonious, reckless bunch).

Furthermore, that would have been reinforced by Novak's never having been taken to task for some gossip he's spread. He's never faced charges on it before, that I know of. Probably never bothered even to think of that as a realistic possibility. After all, he was dealing with Lord Karl the Invincible - and certainly THAT'S a guy who's never been held accountable for any shit he's pulled. There's never been any hell to pay for any of these people. It's like John Dean said about duhbya's "intellect" - he's never had to do any mental "heavy lifting" in his life. And he's not inclined to start now. Same ethic applies here.

And a lot of times, people strike back REALLY viciously when they're afraid or desperate. We used to have a school board member here in So Cal named Bobbi Fiedler. She was - guess what - a republi-CON. Conservative. A real camera whore. She was one of those media stalkers who was always there getting her face on TV and on newsradio, commenting on WHATEVER outrage or issue was raging in the community. She sought higher office and got it - made it to Congress. Then she got caught in a scandal - that eventually cut her career climb short. But when the storm clouds started gathering, she went on a vicious attack - attacking everything and everybody she thought was a foe. That's probably one of the reasons why our smog out here cleared up a little. She was eventually driven from the public landscape, and she's now a mere footnote, from somewhere in what she would certainly consider Hell on Earth and a fate worse than death: The Land of Obscurity.

23. Novak is a known right wing toady.
Ignorance of the law doesn't excuse him. If that excuse worked nobody would ever be convicted. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing because the story as he tells it is he asked if Wilson's wife was "fair game" and was told yes.
Novak may try to claim his first amendment rights but I'm pretty sure the first amendment doesn't cover conspiring with others to commit a felony. He should be charged at some point and if he won't rat out KKKarl then that should be taken into account at his sentencing

3. It doesn't matter if Joe Wilson
was the biggest jerk on the planet. It is still a crime to out a CIA agent.

Maybe Novak should learn to shut his mouth, since he is a prime suspect in a grand jury investigation for his role in exposing a very important covert operation?

Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 07:37 AM by papau
When Saddam already had 500 tons of yellow cake and no nuke program?

Wilson's wife as part of job sends letter that recalls Wilson 98-99 visir to Niger to check on yelloe cake, and this is a "Joseph Wilson was suggested for a mission to Niger by his CIA employee wife"? Sounds more like gathering a list of a list of possible folks rather than an asking of who should go.

Amazing how English can imply what is untrue! Or is it just Novak?

Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 08:08 AM by gandalf
I thought in his NY Times op-ed he unambiguously and publicly contradicted this information. Why "allegedly"?

"punished as a truth-teller": This sounds as if he had not been a truth-teller. So Novak means that, Wilson did not talk the truth, Iraq did in fact try to buy Uranium?

I don't get what he wants to tell us (besides to smear Wilson).

18. Since when are possible conflicts of interest relevant to Republicans?
Of course it might be a bit inadequate when someone promotes his spouse. But the result of Wilson's job is still there: Bush lied in his SOTU.

But then, please, look at Cheney/Halliburton, Cheney/Scalia, Bush/Bin Laden/Bush/Carlyle and so on.

19. When Novak writes, "According to committee sources," ...
When Novak writes words like, "According to committee sources," ...

I have to ask who are the sources in the committee that Novak refers to, because we the public have been taught by this here, compliant, lies fabricating press of recent times, that when anyone writes such words as, "according to committee sources", or "according to unnamed sources" ... we had better all beware of the fact that someone may be making things up. AND SINCE NOVAK STOPPED HAVING ANY CREDIBILITY WITH ME A LONG TIME AGO, I DO HAVE TO WONDER 'which sources" or, 'who in the committe',said whatever it is that Novak is reporting that they said; or, I even have to wonder, is Novak just drunk with his own power?

ALSO, when Novak writes, "ROBERTS FELT WILSON HAD BEEN SUCH A 'CAUSE CELEBRE' FOR DEMOCRATS THAT THEY COULD NOT FACE THE FACTS ABOUT HIM"...

I have to say,GOD, O, GOD, O GOD! Sweet Jesus! Isn't Novak aware that in the above quotation he is simply just smearing democrats about not being able to face the truth about Wilson WHEN, to my questioning mind, I have to ask, Is Novak, even, ever, capable of facing any truth about BUSH, his dictatorial power grab, and his seemingly deranged mind?

Oh, Lord, if anyone is blind here; if anyone here is more partisan, more suffering from a refusal to face the facts of our current political situation than four eyes Novak who apparently needs a lense adjustment, I just don't know who it is.

Oh, God! Novak can't see that he is suffering from the same SIN that he accuses Democrats of.

... and in this world of thundering voices and blast-high volumes of trying to see who can say the most lies, or the loudest, or who can reach the most souls, I have to say, NOVAK IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST SINNERS OF ALL!}(

Despite your efforts to discredit Wilson's allegations...

There was still a crime committed by someone in the White House in divulging CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity to you.

With the investigation winding down and the rumors flying about a much larger issue than a CIA agent outing, your article appears to nothing more than window dressing on Rovian damage control.

If you have not heard the rumors circulating, here is the short version: The work Valerie Plame was doing when she was outed may have been centered around investigating illegal sales of nuclear technology to banned countries by a "particular domestic and international companies". That investigation is probably ruined now.

What the speculation is that one of those companies is Halliburton or one of it's subsidiaries and that Vice President Dick Cheney thwarted the investigation by leaking the name to Carl Rove who in turn leaked it to you.

Cheney is on record openly criticizing the Clinton administrations rules on sale of technology to certain countries whill CEO of Halliburton.

Halliburton was fined for sales of banned material under Cheney leadership.

It makes one wonder why Dick made those personal visits to the CIA. Was it to oversee Iraq intel? Or was it to find more out about the investigation into illegal nuclear technlogy sales because it was getting close to home?

Even though I'm a tranquil guy now at this stage of my life, I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious, of traitors."
