Support Whoopi... Here's A List Of Unilever Products To Boycott
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 08:08 AM by arwalden
Based on the fact that Unilever caved-in so eaily to the few whining crybabies on the right... my guess is that the company was already bent to the right. So, it's doubtful that any boycott (or threat of a boycott) from liberals will have much of an effect on their politics or their policies. --- In order to have ANY influence on them or to cause them any discomfort at all, it would require MUCH more organization than I'm capable of doing.

Nevertheless, it will make ME feel better knowing that I'm not supporting them and in being able to encourage other like-minded folks. If you think boycotting Unilever products will make YOU feel better too, then here's a list of their brands to avoid. (I compiled this list based on my quick review of a few pages on their web site. It's not a complete list... but it's a start.)

Some of them will be familiar to many Americans... others are products that are available with a limited regional distribution, or are brand names of products available only in Europe or Latin America.

The highlighted product names are the ones that I personally currently use (or have used in the past) and which I will no longer purchase.

I hope this list is helpful to you. You can make up your own mind whether or not you want to support a company that bows down so willingly to the "hurt feelings" of a few whining crybaby Bush-loving repukes.

Axe, Bertoulli, Birdseye, Cif, Comfort,
Domestos, Dove, Family Brand, Findus,
Healthy Heart, Heart, Hellmann's, Iglo,
Knorr, Lipton, Lux, Omo, Ponds, Radiant,
Rexona, Signal, Slim·fast, Sunsilk, Surf

Other products include:

Suave
Vaseline
Lifebuoy
Ragu
Breyers Ice Cream
I Can’t Believe It's Not Butter
Snuggle Fabric Softener
Lever2000 Body Soap

Below are the URL's that were most helpful in compiling this list of Unilever products to boycott.

http://www.unilever.com/brands/hpc/
http://www.unilever.com/brands/food/
http://www.unilever.com/brands/strategy/

-- Allen

P.S. There are plenty of FINE products on the market that are comparable substitutes for Unilever products. (I'm gonna miss "I Can’t Believe It's Not Butter"... but I'll survive.)

edit: emphasis, clarity

Dear Judy XXXXXX,

This is an auto-generated response to let you know that we've received your message.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We want to provide the best support possible to help you achieve your goals with The Slim·Fast Plan. Please don't hesitate to call us toll free at 1-800-SLIM-FAST as e-mail responses may take 1-2 days.

On 07/15/2004 you wrote:
As a nurse, I tend to avoid taking sides on such issues but today....as a long time patron of Slim-Fast products I must speak-up. Your decision to terminate Ms. Goldberg for her political satire is just unacceptable. She has been satirizing politicians all her life...it is her loving way just as it is for Saturday Night Live, George Carlin and so many more..... I will not ever use Slim Fast products again. As an active nurse who teaches at a local college as an instructor, practicing in several hospitals for clinical.....I will speak to the vendors of these venues to have them remove Slim Fast products from the vending machines, lunch lines and upadtes all the students and staff nurses. Then, I plan on sharing my experience with other nurses across the state of Ohio....to continue the campaign to stop using Slim Fast. This should cover a lot of fat nurses, students and patients. I just thought I'd let you know why your sales will be dropping.
Please tell your friends about Slim-Fast.com, and be sure to visit us again soon!

Sincerely,

The Slim·Fast Consumer Support Team

Boycott Ben & Jerry's because another subsidiary of their parent company got offended at Whoopi's righteousness?

Ben & Jerry's?

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the twisty weirdness in this?

15. I Know That, Sweetie
I agree... it's a frustrating dilemma. --- But not so much for me since I count fat-grams... and real ice cream isn't permitted. I don't think Ben & Jerry's has a fat-free version of any of their treats (unless they have a sorbet).

41. Yes, Ben Cohen founded True Majority
I heard him in an interview about selling out to Unilever. That he wanted the company to remain independent, but shareholder pressure won out.

Sadly, a lot of smaller natural foods companies that work to socially responsible have been swallowed by the giants. Here's a list. . . http://www.endgame.org/organics.html I guess that's business.

I don't want to hurt his product or pocket book since he has been such a liberal supporter. If boycotting Ben & Jerry's won't really hurt him then I am game to include them in the list.

43. Don't write letters to Ulnilever !!!!!!
Don't waste your time!!!

Unilever DID NOT cave to pressure from RW Doug from Upland type losers. They are the RW pressure. They pay people to delete emails and throw letter in the trash.

Instead of trying to fight Fascists with tools of democratic dissent we need to go underground.

Make fliers and leave them in public places. IE busses subways parks book shelves.

Go into your supermarket and leave the fliers on the shelves beside the Unilever products.

Don't bang your head against the wall sending complaints to fascists.

Please.

i can't say i'm proud of it.

problem is once you start boycotting every evil corporation, there's hardly anything you can buy. which isn't a reason not to make an effort, it's just that it's problematic to be consistent.

36. You Have To Pick Your Battles...
... and I pick this one. It's an easy one to win because I "win" just by doing. I win because I feel better about having done SOMETHING.

I'm not naive enough to think that my efforts will actually harm them, or to think that Unilever will actually change their policies, but I'm still the winner because I know that MY MONEY isn't supporting their efforts to silence critics of Bush*.

-- Allen

P.S. I'm not about to "sterilize" my house of all remaining Unilever products. I'll continue to use what I have on hand, but they won't see another dollar of mine from this point forward.

Re: the firing of Whoopi Goldberg

Why wasn't your company as diligent when Bush stole the election from Florida by disenfranchising African Americans? How dare you silence any black person in this country who chooses to criticize Bush?

I will be boycotting all Unilever products because of Slim Fast's unAmerican behavior toward Whoopi Goldberg. This woman speaks for the majority of your customers.

Or do only fat-ass Republicans drink Slim-Fast?

Maybe you can outsource your product and your jobs to India. I will go out of my way to choose other brands. I will also enjoy watching your company's stocks decline.

31. I'm writing them a letter ...
... because, as an earlier post points out, they just spit back a form email ... they're probably just hitting "delete." It's worth 37 cents to me to make sure they're listening.

I'm actually explaining to them how much I like their products and how avidly I buy them and how much I'm going to miss them because I have to boycott their products because their company spit on the First Amendment of the Constitution and therefore are unpatriotic and UnAmerican.

I'm also telling them how much I liked the Slim-Fast ads, BECAUSE of Whoopi. So many weight-loss commercials show some glamourous, skinny "after" picture. But Slim-Fast chose an average-looking woman, in a REALISTICALLY-sized body for their "after" picture. That's what I'm going to look more like (the Caucasian version) if I use Slim-Fast.

I'm telling them the boycott is spreading across the Internet like wildfire, and wishing them good luck as their MARKET SHRINKS!

and the lady there took down all my comments,..I told her about the "astroturf" letters to the editors...the "cookie clearing" poll voting...and the email campaigns from freerepublic.. She took down the info and said she would go there

CALL THEM !!!!!

I also told her that I could easily find substitutes for their products..and that if 500 "agitators" sent out 20 indignant(yet bogus) emails...and that was the cause of firing whoopi..they have been HAD..

There are WAY more people in the US, who dislike heavyhanded firings because of such a silly excuse..and that they knew who she was and what her politics were BEFORE they hired her

Most of those products aren't environmentally friendly, and they test on animals (which is bullshit and unnecessary for beauty/body care products). So there are a lot of reasons to hate these bastards.
