Hello DU! Who here knows why that IL Senator is so popular?
Whats his name again? I had never heard of him, but he sounds pretty solid, considering that the GOP can't find an opponent for him.

So what is the deal-io?
Why is he so electable?
How come I'm so in the dark?

Fill me in!

1. IL Senator?
Actually, Barack Obama is just a candidate for Senate, not a Senator. As to why he's so popular...you'll have to ask someone from Illinois.

Though I'm guessing he's a lot more popular in Chicago than downstate - southern IL is probably not so thrilled with him.

2. OK then, I feel better knowing that he is not an incumbent
Barack Obama - what an interesting name.

9. His father was Kenyan
His mother was a Kansan.

They met in Hawaii where they married and Barack was born.

BTW, they talk about him being "bi-racial". His mother was caucasian.

He's the REAL DEAL and is more charismatic than Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan COMBINED!

12. No doubt his opponents will compare his name to Osama's
But as one DU-er suggested, by simply inserting an aposthrope after the "O", he can wrap up the Irish-American vote!

7. He's from the IL state senate.
He's popular because he is kind, intelligent, and ethically strong. He will be the first African American president of the U.S., mark my words.

3. He has star quality.
He is young, handsome, has a very impressive education, a positive message, and plenty of experience in the State legislature. I can't recall when I have ever seen such an appealing candidate.

I've already got him penciled him in as Edwards' VP in 2012! And eight years after that...

5. Check out his website
He certainly looks great on paper, and comes off as intelligent and articulate, something sorely lacking among his conservative counterparts.

6. Obama
My friend in central Illinois, a county Dean leader, has been wild about him as a candidate since long before the primaries.

10. He won more votes in the Democratic Primary
than all of the GOP candidates won in the GOP Primary, COMBINED!!!

He won the Democratic Primary with 52.7% of the votes cast out of a field of 7 candidates. That's HUGE!
