GOP threats are the real shame

Once again, a conservative gets it wrong ("You left out the shameful actions," Letters, Monday).

The writer bemoans The Republic for not including the Democrats' chant of "shame" during the vote on a provision of the Patriot Act. What she failed to mention is the GOP holding the vote open twice as long as scheduled so they could "persuade" House Republicans to change their vote.

These are the same congressional Republicans who (a) canceled a vote on VA health care because Sen. John Kerry was going to be present, and (b) extended a vote until 3 a.m. to pass the president's bloated and misguided Medicare reform bill by threatening GOP members planning to vote against it.

It seems to me that the GOP subverting democracy and twisting arms for votes is indeed a shameful act. - Christian *******, Mesa

Try getting a liberal letter printed... if you're not determined, it's impossible.
