for him, but many in my family did. They are waking up to how much he lied.

the biggest lie in their minds was about how much of a "christian" he was.

My mom used to say...he even stopped on the campaign trail to "lead someone to the lord"

I would groan and say PHOTO OPP ...

but even they are questioning his faith and that means a LOT

7. Me either but

I intentionally did not register when we moved to the area in 1995. I knew I was coming into a heavily Republican dominated area and soon had a job working at the Chamber of Commerce. I know how political affiliations can get you into trouble with that line of work, so I decided I'd rather have a job than ask for trouble. After the Chamber eliminated my job through a "reorganization" in 2000(which was all political anyway), I got registered but it was too late to vote in the 2000 election. :(

Welcome to DU! :hi:

24. What's so confusing?
Clinton isn't even running for president.

Maybe you haven't heard but John Kerry is the democratic candidate this year. Besides we all know, anybody is better than Bu$h.

2. Pretending to be devout to get public support is the oldest trick in the
book. I don't understand why people still fall for it. Don't read history, I guess.

Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet."

6. Hey, now!
Actually, I have been. All morning I'm printing up a cover letter at this moment, and when that's finished, I will be.

Multitasking w/DU makes this more bearable.

9. My Father Voted For Bush
And when it came right down to it, the issue that got his vote was GUN CONTROL. He's a hunter and a very responsible gun owner, and the NRA had him convinced that Al Gore's first action in office would be to form a Gestapo to come around and collect up everyone's guns.

I tried as hard as I could, but could not convince him otherwise.

My mother had been on the fence, and I swayed her to the Gore camp.

My father eventually realized he made the wrong choice, and will vote for Kerry this time around. He was kind of irritated with himself that he didn't vote for Gore in 2000, and even more irritated when he found out my mom DID.

15. Tell them THIS story.
I read this in a Newsweek article a couple of years ago.

Bush was out campaigning one day and happened to use a common Bible quote/phrase and after that speech KKKRove received a TON of phone calls fron the Religious Right telling him that if they wanted the chimp to win, portraying himself as "religious" was the way to go. He would win. The very next week was when he went to Bob Jones University to give that infamous speech. The "religious" thing is nothing more than an act! If he's religious, I'm the Pope! It is all a political ploy. Nothing more.

16. growing up in OK in the 40s and 50s...there was a joke '
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 01:22 PM by bobbieinok
'when the politicians show up at church, you know an election is coming up.....and you better grab your purse/wallet'

My brothers grew up with this saying, but when I remind them of this and ask why I/we/anyone should believe the parading of 'christianity' now......they mumble something about decades of attacks on the 'christian foundations' of the US

one said Gore would have required churches to remove steeples and crosses....!?!?!?!?!

many of my colleagues have told me their 1st question about a politician is whether or not he/she is a 'born again christian'

one colleague, in response to my saying my son in IA would have voted for Ventura if he'd lived in MN, said immediately 'but didn't you see the horrible things Ventura said about christians?'

...that's their 1st and only requirement

17. I know.
Just listening to the people who call into C-SPAN's Washington Journal, it's obvious that it doesn't matter what the chimp has done to destroy our country because, after all, "he's a gawd fearin' man." :eyes: I hear that bullshit on a daily basis. The sheeple are truly frightening. :scared:
