Drudge: Ozzy Bush bash with Hitler Montage
Osbourne opened his concert with the song "War Pigs," featuring a video portrait comparing Bush to Adolph Hitler.

The video featured Bush and Hitler on the same screen, with the caption: "Same sh*t different a**hole," says a source. Footage of bombs dropping and Hitler marching flashed as Ozzy screamed and guitars screeched.

----

Look out for sheets of demographics falling out of Bush support.

This is huge.

The battle for the New World Identity has begun!

33. War Pigs is one of the best anti-war songs there is
Perhaps not as articulate and eloquent as Bob Dylan
but it has a way of grabbing you and damns war and war mongerers.

If Bush wins and there's a draft, Ozzy will lose half his audience. Nonetheless, it's a great song.

7. Truth in art. Ozzie, thank you!
WAR PIGS

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.

Now in darkness world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercies for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
Oh lord, yeah!
War Pigs

Ozzfest!!!!

By Steve Morse, Globe Staff | July 14, 2004

The show sold out, though the one-night stand was down from two nights in the past. But the energy level was definitely higher than last year, when some poseurs were on the grounds (Marilyn Manson, for one) and Ozzy played with his solo band rather than with Black Sabbath, which lived up to expectations Monday night with a pummeling set that had the horn salutes raised high.

And Osbourne, who looked much better than he did last time, startled some fans with video for his opener, "War Pigs," juxtaposing photos of George Bush and Adolf Hitler with an unprintable caption about how they resemble each other.

Although Ozzfest is typically a celebration of alternative lifestyles, this year's version often had a political edge. The band Otep reminded the crowd to question "priests and police and politicians." The group Bleeding Through said the country needed a "new leader." And a couple of acts stood up for the troops overseas: Black Label Society's Zakk Wylde dedicated a song to them, while Superjoint Ritual's Phil Anselmo said "crushing the enemy is something we had to do."

13. Geezer Butler wrote the Sabbath lyrics, not Ozzy
Actually, in some ways Ozzy was the least interesting person in Sabbath. Geezer was the most interesting lyrically, Iommi was the most responsible for the sound, and Ozzy just had that special voice.

I grew up on that stuff, esp Vol 4.

Interesting how nothing seems so hard nowadays even though the technology is so much better. I listen to MonsterMagnet, Buckcherry, Godsmack, Metallica, etc -- but it just seems like acting compared to Sabbath and Zeppelin. Why is that?

15. Because they're not doing anything new
They're adding their flair, but nothing really new. With Iommi you got a whole new guitar sound... with Zep a whole new mix of styles.

24. Musicians had to be musicians in those days, Lucky777
You couldn't survive on looks and hype. You had to know how to play your instruments and write music, whether you did so under the influence of drugs or not. Music videos killed the radio star by dumbing down our standards. That's why War Pigs sounds as good as it did twenty years ago.

35. I gotta disagree with you...I am a huge Ozzy and Black Sabbath
fan....

Both with and without Sabbath, Ozzy is the most interesting.

After Oz, Black Sabbath did diddly shit w/ Dio and some
other stand-ins I can't even remember.

Whereas Ozzy, even if you don't like his style of music, is
still at the top of the heap after all these years.

And yes, he is a fruit loop goofball with a very special voice.

I am not saying Geezer and Tony aren't great, it's just that
if you downplay Ozzy you gotta be high.

38. Triumphs of minimalism

http://www.ozzfest.com/tourdates.html

Heavy metal began coalescing long before Black Sabbath arrived on the scene--Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Who and the Kinks had all made contributions to the fledgling genre. But Sabbath added some entirely new twists. Instead of focusing on virtuosic displays and high-concept songwriting, the Birmingham, England quartet stripped it down to a sludgy, throbbing, primordial ooze balanced by frontman Ozzy Osbourne's deep affection for pop hooks.

Black Sabbath's early efforts were triumphs of minimalism, reducing rock to its most elemental appeal. Instead of trying to get inside the narcotic experience, they simply celebrated taking drugs; rather than tapping into cosmology and Middle Earth, they shamelessly borrowed horror movie imagery; and oblivious to more bourgeois concerns such as ennui and angst, they dove right into alienation and escapism. Their most memorable stab at politics was "War Pigs," which painted unspecified war-mongers in an evil light, "just like witches at black masses." But what their pacifist statement lacked in sophistication it more than made up for in musical might. Osbourne's keening vocals and deadpan earnestness imparted the songs with a distinctive kind of anti-charisma which he took with him (along with the persistent pop fixation that lurked behind Sabbath's greatest hits) when he left Black Sabbath in 1979 to embark on the second leg of his influential career.

Even before Osbourne's departure, however, Sabbath had begun to decline--album by album, the group's increasing lack of focus resulted in odd experiments that apparently aspired to prog-rock complexity but ended up sounding like meandering preludes to Supertramp and Boston. The musicianship was as driving as ever, but the pop glimmer that made all the inky brooding compelling during Osbourne's tenure was gone and the succession of singers who fronted the band--including Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow), Ian Gillen (Deep Purple) and Tony Martin--simply couldn't replicate the odd anxiety-ridden befuddlement that was Osbourne's--and Sabbath's--signature. With the exception of Dio's first efforts with the group, most latter-day Sabbath sounds unpleasantly similar to much of the cut-rate metal that they have inspired. In Summer '97, the original Black Sabbath, including Osbourne, regrouped for Osbourne's Ozzfest tour; the band released the live reunion album, simply titled Reunion, in October 1998.
