There was a letter to the editor in my local paper today urging everyone to wear red this Friday and every Friday as a show of support for our troops. I did a google search (red +friday +troops) and there are many stories and posts out there suggesting wearing red on Friday as a way to show the "liberals" that the majority of americans support the current administration and its policies in Iraq. Here's an example:
" Word of mouth, press, TV, lets each person tell your friends and see if we can make the United States on any given Friday, a sea of RED much like a home football game at the University of Nebraska. I guarantee you that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED much to the disdain of the un-American ralliers. Let's all Americans lead by example, wear RED on FRIDAYS."
http://www.geocities.com/sfa_x/support_troops_2003.htmand this:
"Quite a few Americans support our troops, but as usual, we are the silent majority. We are not 'organized' to really reflect who we are, or our opinions.
"We would like to start a grass roots movement using the membership of the Special Operations Association and the Special Forces Association to organize Americans who support our troops.
"The idea is not to stand on street corners once or twice, not to carry signs in a rally. It's much simpler than that. We need to inform the local VFWs and American Legions, our local press, TV, and even continue carrying the message up to the national levels as we start to get this going.
"Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is that starting
and continuing on each and every Friday, we and every red-blooded American who supports our men and women, wear something red.

I don't know what to make of this, just pointing it out as a heads up.
