Jaccuzi Case? Not a John Edwards story, try James Baker....
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 04:33 PM by trumad
Quote from a piece on another thread:
Although no lawsuits have yet been filed in the Baker case, a family spokesman issued a statement to Pool & Spa News, clearly indicating that the writing is on the wall.

“The swimming pool and spa industry has been well aware of these risks since the late 1970s,” says Robert T. Hall, an attorney for Nancy and James Baker IV, Graeme’s parents. “Their products are especially hazardous to children. Since the 1980s, there have been at least 147 entrapment incidents documented, resulting in 36 deaths.”

Hall goes on to say that the Bakers plan to hold the industry accountable for the suction entrapment phenomenon.

McLean 7-Year-Old Drowns in Whirlpool
Victim Was James Baker's Grandchild

By Josh White Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, June 19, 2002; Page B02

The 7-year-old granddaughter of former secretary of state James A. Baker III died when she became trapped in a whirlpool and drowned in McLean, Fairfax County police said yesterday. Virginia Graham Baker of McLean was playing with other children in a friend's whirlpool on Alps Drive during a graduation party Saturday when she accidentally got caught in the pool's drain. She was stuck underwater and was unable to free herself, police said. A family member found her, and it took two adults to dislodge her, authorities said. Several people who were at the party then tried to revive the girl, who was taken by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital and pronounced dead. Virginia was the daughter of James A. Baker IV, who is the son of the former cabinet secretary.

2. kudos who whoever found this!!
What a horrible, horrible tragedy for a family.

It's time to send this news to Tucker Carlson, who opened today by calling Edwards a jacuzzi lawyer.

10. Same here.
I want to see Tucker tell James Baker his granddaughter's life is just another "jacuzzi case" and see how long he remains on air.

11. wow
I hope the Jaccuzi story has legs because this is very compelling human interest connection to the Republican aristocracy.

16. Kick!!

Sure is different when it is their kid or relative.

It would be cool to make a thread of Repubs who benefited from using trial lawyers and won cases.

This is such a sad story about Baker's grandchild! The family had every right to sue.

17. Has anyone sent it to Crossfire? Maybe Begala or Carville would bring
it up after what Carlson said it seems that his comment was crass enough to deserve an apology when it was one of his Repugs grandaughters who died this way.

I don't watch Crossfire, but read Carlson's comment here on DU.

18. The oness is on the Bakers
For not supervising the children.

For not demanding a hair net be worn. (Long hair is sucked into drains)

For not installing the new $4 safety drain cover.

For throwing blame the other way in face of their own negligence.

19. The negligence is with manufacturer.
There are no facts I've seen to support negligent supervision.
