Take Your Son/Daughter To Register...Now
Just a reminder to those of us with voting age kids that it's getting close to the time some states, counties and municipalities start closing down registrations (we have a 90 day rule here), thus this would be a great time to make sure their registered and ready to vote.

My 19 year old daughter has been ready to vote since right after her 18th birthday, but we were surprised that when we recently asked her boyfriend, he still hadn't registered as well as several of his and her friends. We decided to do something and thought we'd pass along this idea to others.

Next Tuesday, I will be chauffering a dozen new voters to village hall and making sure they get registered...and also make sure those who are going away to school will get absentee balots. Initially it was just going to be 4 of us doing this, but as word has spread (especially to those who've seen F911...which is almost everyone) others have asked if they could come along as well. We're going to make a picnic (weather permitting) out of it as well.

Even states with Motor voter and same-day registration, better to be safe than face possible obstacles on election day. Also, I've noticed those who register start taking a more active interest in what's going on (especially their hate for Bunnypants) and will be at the polls this November. With many on summer vacation, this is something that doesn't take long and will mean a lot in November.

There's a wealth of 18-24 year olds who either haven't registered to vote, haven't updated voting records due to moving around or aren't set up with absentee balots. This is an ideal time to get that house in order and get younger voters...who have the most at stake in this election...involved.

I remember my first vote and how excited and proud I was to cast it, and that feeling hasn't vanished (despite attempts to the contrary). I can see that same fire in my daughter's eye. Here's to sharing that special power with a new generation of Democrats.

Cheers!
