Kerry pandering to blacks by doing percieved "black talk" rhythm
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 10:37 PM by homelandpunk
In his remarks about Bush not going to speak to the NAACP,
Kerry merely said, "Maybe The president is too busy, but there's nowhere I'd rather be than in Philadephia right now with the NAACP,"

Okay, check this out. Start a nice beat with a good hook...then:

Maybe The president is too busy,
but there's nowhere I'd rather be
than in Philadephia right now
with the NAACP.......
Aw yeah dawg.

Marketing just like McDonald's commercials...they do "black commercials" with "black talk" to sell burgers to African Americans. Kerry doing the same thing. Please DO NOT tell me this was not a contrived sentence he was given by some shithead marketing jackoff in his campaign who thinks shit like this works.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT FLAME BAIT. I SERIOUSLY BELIEVE THIS.

Prove me wrong.

2. How can someone disprove coincidence?
Show me a pattern of such statements, and you may have a point.

Show me one statement that fits into rhyme, and it is probably just coincidence.

It's impossible to prove a negative. You're the one making the assertion, so the burden of proof is on YOU. Prove yourself right.

14. Kerry's campaign is already top-heavy with slick marketer's.
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 10:44 PM by homelandpunk
The fact Kerry has YET to hit anything out of the ballpark on all the obscene shit that Bush throws out there is PROOF he is bing controlled by cautious marketing "pro's". Kery could have blasted Bush on this, but he says that line...right. WHO believes that line anyway??? There is nowhere he'd rather BE?????? HAHAHA

19. None of that is proof.
There are other reasons why Kerry might not have hit anything out of the ballpark (in your opinion, I might add) besides the influence of marketing pros. You got no science, homelandpunk.

23. But then you realize the ONLY way I can get the proof you need
is to kidnap Kerry and his entire campaign staff, drug them with truth serum, and torture them, until the one who came up with that line screams, "Allright! I thought blacks would read that line and think Kerry was down." Apart from that, you are right, I won't get proof. Fuck, forget your precious proof. OK? I am right. Regardless.

44. What are you right about? That I am wrong? You can't do your "logic"
and "proof" discourse, and then say you are "right". Being "right" according to you, rests on proof. And you cannot prove YOU are right. I mean, you go on and on about proof, and then do the same damn thing I am doing: asserting being right without proof.
By the way, I am right.

43. I'd like Kerry to have a Bulworth-style meltdown.
Shack up with Halle Berry, wear some sweats, shades, $200 tennies, and just start talkin like Beatty did in the movie.
During a TV interview, Kerry can say, "To get rid of racism, balcks and whites should just start fucking each other until we're all one same color." (Or some line like that Bulworth said.)

He sounded like a white guy campaigning for politcal office, not a black preacher getting the congregation heated up.

"prove me wrong" How? You have your perception, I have mine. and believe me, after working in Holy-Roller TV for almost a decade, I have heard PLENTY of preachers of ALL colours going at it, and Kerry did not sound like he was "pandering" to the NAACP.

Really need a reason to hate Kerry, dontcha?

You're spot-on about the Mickey-Dee comercials, though. Some Mad Ave cracker told them it was "hip", I'd bet....

Some folks say that Willie Greene,
Was the baddest muthafucka the world has ever seen.
But I want ya to light you up a joint and take a real good shit and screw your wig on tight
And let me tell ya about the little baaaaaad muthafucka called Dolemite.
Now Dolemite was from San Anton'
A ramblin, scamblin, gamblin little young muthafucka from the day he was born.
Why the day he was dropped from his Mammy's ass, He slapped his Pappy's face
And said, "From now on, cocksucka, I'm running this place."
At the age of one he was drinkin whiskey and gin.
At the age of two he was eating the bottles it came in.

Hey, even though I believe what I said, I can't believe more people don't just post something like this, instead of reading me the riot act cuz they think I'm on something to even come up with my theory (which I'll defend to the death). I mean, come on, it COULD be true. I just happen to believe it IS true. So I get a bad rap. Get it? Rap?

15. Even if it were true, so what?
You want to identify with an audience. If you do so stylistically, there's no problem with that. Now, I'm not saying that your arrangement is accurate or even comes close to "proving" a stylistic intention (I'd like to see a speech-writers notes on this particular passage, as would most reasonable people). You've done a nice reading, but that's about all.

But, once again, it would not even be bad if it were true. You call it pandering. I call it entering into a discourse community. There is no problem here. If he was addressing biologists and used elements of that discourse communities rhythms or vocabulary to build a bond with that audience, there would be no problem there either. And just because marketers have hit on this ancient rhetorical principle as well does not make it bad in principle. Marketers use it - some times - to abuse those communities. Other people may use it to bond with and help those communities. You are mistaking a use of the principle with the principle itself. There's nothing wrong with attempting to speak your audience's language. Hell, some might see it as the ethical response, period.

go to yahoo news and read some articles. They don't show it on TV so much, but he is out there blasting everyday.

Send your theory to Drudge. He may take an interest in it. Your thesis sounds like a lot of the horse shit he posts on his site -- a whole helluva lot about nothing not based on any fact whatsoever.

But yeah, Kerry is a panderer. Never mind that he's running for president. Minor detail, eh?

41. Drudge would like it. Yeah, he would run with it.
But I won't send in my theory.
Kerry could be 20 points ahead if he hired somebody with a smart mouth to feed him lines instead of cautious bullshit. In fact, I will say that were it true (and I think it is) that this line was meant for "black" ears, would not be so bad, if Kerry just REAMED Bush while doing it. I mean reamed, decimated, slapped him into next week. BUT HE NEVER DOES. I don't mean safe, run of the mill typical election year barbs...I mean real angry lines.

46. I saw this live...
And not only wasn't he rhyming, his rhythm sucked, he didn't know when to pause, and he came across much "whiter" than I could possibly imagine him coming across.

He stomped on his own "amens", he wasted his power-applause points, and he seemed to plow through the speech at bizarre and irregular speeds. It was almost embarassing to watch at times, because it seemed as if he was taking the audience feedback as interruptions, not encouragement.

If he *did* have speechwriters deliberately targeting a cross-section (stereotyped or not) of black american culture, Kerry successfully managed to make that effort almost entirely useless.
