I dare you to find a dumber LTTE than this one! |
|
Flagstaff is actually Dem-leaning, but we have our share of yahoos and dumbshits. The irony in this letter is staggering. Case in point:
Keep protesters out of parade 07/15/2004 To the editor:
Will they let just anyone in the 4th of July Parade? I had thought the parade and other festivities were designed to celebrate our great nation's independence. On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from England and democracy was born. America was the land of the free and the home of the brave.
I enjoyed the bagpipers and the FHS band. As expected, everyone cheered the war veterans. I enjoyed watching many diverse groups such as Girl Scouts, church groups and NAU alumni, mostly dressed in red, white and blue to celebrate the colors of our great nation.
But who allowed the war-protesting, "Mothers Against the War"? If there is a time and place for that type of demonstration, I cannot believe a 4th of July Parade is it. I was proud of my fellow Americans who did not cheer this group. It became very silent when they "paraded" by.
I have been appalled at our city's lack of concern for downtown demonstrations to include chalk drawings on our sidewalks and unwanted propaganda. How does this affect tourism in Flagstaff?
Next year, let's limit the entries to patriotic groups.

1. Yeah, down with mothers!!! |
|
Who needs 'em, anyway? And how dare they not want to send their babies off to some godforsaken desert to die for rich men's greed.
Hey, Laureen, let's take it one step further; let's keep these subversive "mother" types under house arrest!:eyes:

Yeah, ask those tens of thousands of slaves about our fledgling "democracy" in the "land of the free". :eyes:
But to bring matters to the present, how dare those anti-war types exercise FREE SPEECH???
What really galls me is that idiots like her, numbering in tens of millions, see the 4th as a jingoistic exercise exclusively, thinking that all American wars, such as ours for independence, are on equal moral footing, and therefore, link it with the present, immoral morass in Iraq.
This one is begging for a reply from me.

Actually, without this awful burden of the ZombyPersona ;-) (ha!), I am reasonable to a fault. I just can't decide whether to take the serious tack or the sarcastic one.
Eh, why bother? It isn't like this creep is going to listen to reason, and her own irony escapes her.

16. I'd use heavy sarcasm |

But, it comes naturally to me.
I'm sure those protesters that threw the tea into Boston Harbor were called unpatriotic by many back in 1775.

9. I was at a local July 4th parade |
|
sponsored by the American Legion and I was thinking that there were many SOME-AMERICAN as opposed to ALL-AMERICAN people represented.
There were a few non-traditional groups at the end. But I found it to be mostly depressing. Partly because when I had been to these in years prior to 9/11 - the parade was quite mixed up with lots of interesting groups interspersed.

From that MoveOn book "Fifty Ways To Love Your Country," paraphrased:
Q: Why would you say something like that about the war in Iraq? Don't you LOVE your country?
A: If I didn't love my country, I wouldn't say anything at all, now would I? I wouldn't care at all what the United States did, would I?
And it probably goes w/o saying that if those marching mothers didn't love their country, they probably wouldn't bother marching in it.

We won't get into how the land of the free was built on the backs of slave labor in the the south, child labor in the north, and was planned and operated from smoke filled, whiskey soaked, back rooms.
She seems to have no clue what these "war-protesting, 'Mothers Against the War'", and like minded people, have historically accomplished for her. If it was not for people that had the guts to march, and fight against the convention of the time, the constitution would still consider blacks and women property and chattel, only white men who owned property could vote, and there would be no public schools, rights of the accused, or free speech.
Our society would still be dominated by Plutocrats, with their strict sense of racial superiority, who would expect us all to bow before them, and work their land and factories for free. Economic liberalism and social justice be damned.
Of course she may not mind all of that, and would love to see the "good old days" of the Tory values of the 18th century make a comeback.
