Bush Email to Gore: "This Internet of yours is a wonderful invention."

Bush, Gore Exchange Sarcasm, E-Mail Notes

By Alan Elsner, Political Correspondent

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Fresh from winning their party presidential nominations, Vice President Al Gore and Texas Gov. George W. Bush exchanged shots and e-mails on Wednesday, starting a campaign that promises to be nasty, brutish and long.

Bush sent a bitingly sarcastic e-mail message to Gore, rejecting his proposal to ban advertisements financed by unregulated ``soft money.'' The message also accused the vice president of trying to cover up personal corruption and mocked him for once having claimed credit for inventing the Internet.

``Thank you for your email. This Internet of yours is a wonderful invention,'' Bush wrote to the vice president.

As soon as he won the nomination, Gore fired off an e-mail to Bush, urging him to agree to a ban on unregulated ``soft money'' contributions to both campaigns and said he had ordered the Democratic National Committee not to spend any soft money on TV advertisements until the Republican Party did so first.

In his reply, Bush called on Gore to urge the White House and the Justice Department to release ``all records and photographs relating to the investigation of fundraising abuses by you and your administration.

``New campaign finance laws are needed. What is even more important is the duty of public officials to obey the existing laws, and I'm afraid your own record does not inspire confidence,'' Bush said.

1. Wonder who wrote and sent the email for Bush?
Karen Hughes would be my guess. Bush doesn't know computers. Like most "CEOs," he has other people to figger `em out for him.

3. George e-mailing his "base" ...
http://www.allaboutgeorge.com/2001/03/17/16.36.45/

"At 10:26 p.m. on Jan. 17, less than three days before he was sworn in as president, George W. Bush sent a group e-mail message to 42 "dear friends" and family members, telling them his new job would preclude continuing to correspond in cyberspace.
"My lawyers tell me that all correspondence by e-mail is subject to open record requests," Mr. Bush wrote to the group, which included top aides and business people."

Even his casual e-mails sound pompous!
