John Edwards takes his wife to Wendy's on their anniversary every year.
GIT ER DONE!!!!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - He's worth millions and could afford the fanciest restaurant in town, but Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) and his wife celebrate each wedding anniversary at a fast-food joint.

The Edwards' have made a romantic ritual out of toasting their nuptials at food chain Wendy's, a tradition that will continue on their 27th anniversary this year.

"Wendy's, we go to Wendy's for our anniversary," the North Carolina senator told NBC's "Today" show on Thursday.

Elizabeth Edwards said on their first anniversary they were moving house, looking "grungy and awful" and so instead of going somewhere fancy they chose Wendy's.

12. I am glad to see you recognize that money does not change one's soul
that much.
That is why when you read that Bush not only tortured frogs and brothers when he was a kid, he graduated to fellow frat brothers and branding with hot wires... and now that he has a whole army... he must have loved the escalation on torture perspective, especially because he can "throw a stone and hide his hand."

8. Naw, it's romance
It's the little things like that that make being committed to each other so great. They can afford to eat some place fancy anytime they want; but apparently no place has the meaning for them like Wendy's. I think it's sweet.

21. I'm sure they eat like kings all year. This isn't about the food.
This is about the romance and nostalgia.

It's sweet.

34. HA Even someone worth significantly less than that should
expect more. I sincerely believe this is a "tall tale" told to make him look like a blue collar dude--but what he doesn't realize is that even a blue collar type of family will try to make special occasions a little out of the ordinary.

I don't believe there is a word of truth in this little story, and moreover I think it is one of the stupidest lies that I have ever heard.

9. She also wears an $11 wedding ring
My take on this is that both are doing their best to not get caught up in their wealth and flashy excess. I think they love each other and go to Wendy's as a romantic gesture to remind themselves of their early years together.

10. I wonder
how many married people have a ritual tradition like that? I imagine quite a few. It's probably part of the way you keep the romance going.

You know it doesn't matter in the end if your husband takes you to fancy restaurants and buys you diamond rings, or whether you have the money to have a big church wedding - what really matters is that the fabric of your everyday life has it's recognition and attention is paid to little details.

But I'm perpetually alone so I'm just talking out of my ass.

16. This resonates with me
My wife and I do the same thing....only with McDonalds as a tradition because at one time we planned a big anniversary dinner after our son was born and the baby-sitter cancelled out 15 minutes before she was scheduled to arrive. We took our son and, dressed well, we went to McDonalds together, as a family. We had a great time and repeat it often as a romantic and family gesture......

I understand the Edwards' doing this and it makes me feel much more comfortable with him. He may be wealthy but he's just like us. He's been there with us...

20. Romantic but I hope they pick something healthy
It is romantic in the quirky way that couples in love endulge themselves but Wendy's burgers have the highest fat content in the business. Their slogan used to be "hot and juicy" and we know what they mean by "juice."

We need Edwards around for that Prez run in 2012 (when he will be running against Noelle Bush). Please go for the Grilled Chicken you crazy lovebirds!

understand that......that is wonderful......all the money in the world will not bring back their son.....but their love lives on in so many other ways....I like John Edwards, a lot.

Kerry and Edwards are a great team.

24. IT says so much about them as a couple
as $$$ as they are, and you know everything isn't ALWAYS perfect when it comes to celebrate events. But going and doing something that has rememberence to them, will take them away from "whatever" and remind them what it is all about.

A pissy celebration turns into a refermation of vows.

29. Hey John! Go see "Supersize Me"!
Maybe you'd change where you have your anniversary dinner. (IF anyone else hasn't seen the movie ... it's a very F-9/11-type take on the fast-food industry, and the food and beverage industry in general and how they work to get kids addicted to junk food at an early age).

It's gross, but really interesting and well done.

30. Fast food once in a while is a treat, every meal every day is a killer.
I really don't think that eating at Wendys/McDonalds/Burger King/etc once a month or less is harmful, if your diet is balanced the rest of the time. It's the people who eat it 3-4 times a week who are at risk of serious health problems.

I eat at Subway or Blimpies more frequently than that, but I don't think that's the same. I don't eat fried food there. I also have a weakness for Taco Bell, but I always get the chicken soft taco.

31. Anybody think Bush* even knows what a Wendy's is or for that matter
how much a burger cost? It would be a good question for him. How much for a burger and coke at Wendy's? I would love to see the expression on his face at that moment. There isn't anything much more American than a Burger and a coke from a fast food joint and I doubt Bush* has ever stepped inside one.

33. We went to Arby's on our wedding night.
And no, we didn't consumate the marriage on the Arby's sauce bar....

But after the reception we were hungry because we didn't have time to eat at the reception. So on the way back to the hotel, we stopped at Arby's with full wedding regalia, and had a sandwich.
