How much is the Bush family worth, anyway? I ask this... |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 09:14 AM by terrya
because one of the rw talking points seems to be how rich Teresa Heinz Kerry is.
Last I checked, the Bushes ain't exactly paupers. And I believe that their fortune is a bit "tainted", shall we say?

7. I've seen pictures of the "ranch" posted here |
|
It's not all that impressive by Texas standards. I've seen much larger ranch houses. In fact we have a friend who has a multimillionaire girlfriend. Her ranch house is four stories with a 3000 square foot guest house, a building at least that large for her quarter horses and a 1000sq ft "Gazebo" complete with outdoor kitchen and fireplace. I believe the acreage is something like 150 acres, since she have since bought the surrounding land on both sides and behind her ranch as well. Oh and surprise, she is a republican and a bush* supporter.

Financial business. And Prescott Bush is George's grandfather.

4. I believe the Carlyle Group is privately owned |

How convenient. No SEC filings required, as far as I know. King George the First is of course a large stockholder, along with the bin Laden family.
I'm sure King George the First is worth billions, and of course Smirky is an heir to his crime family's fortune.

How much cash did Germany have deposited with Brown Brothers - Harriman when the Nazi's went belly up? Imagine that wad if it were properly invested since 1945.

9. I live in Midland, Texas |
|
The house they had here when Bush Sr was an oilman and W, Jeb were kids is nothing special. Three bedroom two bath, very average, middle, middle class. If they had big money then, they sure weren't using it to live on.

10. Did you see the house in Maine? |
|
They could afford to put on a facade of being middle class (to preserve their electability). They had a nice house up in a Maine to escape to.

11. The Bush family never invested much in Texas. |
|
They bought houses as needed but sold them when they moved. There are no Texas "roots". Too bad Bush Sr didn't think to buy a "ranch" years ago; he might have been able to get some good Hill Country land before it went through the roof.
For many years, Bush Sr's Texas address was a suite at "The Houstonian Club & Spa" (a hotel). After he left DC, he built a house on a very small lot in Houston's 3rd (or 4th) most prestigious neighborhood.

12. The Bushes live very modestly for people of wealth -- it puzzles me -- |
|
The Maine house, I think, has probably been in the family for a long time. Their other houses are modest. Poppy has a cigarette boat in Maine. W has a pool at the ranch. Maybe they're just too unsophisticated and lacking in curiosity to spend the money they have. I can't imagine them collecting art, or traveling extensively to interesting places. I've never heard of them skiing, so no ski house. God knows, the women aren't interested in designer clothes, and probably not in beautiful houses, decorated beautifully. And we hear of no substantial charitable contributions. If the Bushes have millions, they're wasted on them.

most rich people get rich by saving, investing, and living BELOW their means.
The Bush's are nothing unusual in this respect.

17. Poppy didn't own the place in Maine |
|
until just before he ran for VP with Reagan. It was owned by a Walker relative, though, who died. Then Poppy bought it. Sort of like the way * bought his place. I remember how when Poppy was president no one seemed to know exactly where he was from. He didn't seem to belong anywhere except at his vacation place in Maine. When he claimed he was going back to Texas to build a house when he lost the election the media was skeptical because the lot was very small.
I remember how when they moved back to Texas Bar was shocked that she could just phone up and order a pizza delivered to her house. She had no idea.

We know they have billions in oil money and everything else! I wonder why they choose to hide where their money is coming from...
I don't trust Bush 41 one tiny bit.IMO he is the pivotal piece to the NeoCon puzzle. I have always heard when you believe something is crooked, follow the money!
For GHWB: If they don't spend it on houses, jets and ritzy parties, where is the money going? It sure does not go for Barbs ugly clothes or fancy jewelry. So, WHERE IS IT GOING?? Where is the Money?
For JEB and CHIMP: Show me the money. It is not their average clothes, especially Laura's. They are living rent free in DC and Crawford is a joke.
JEB's wife tried to hide a few thousand $$ in clothes when she came home from Europe a few years ago. Makes me think that Poppy does not share his wealth with his kids.
So -- WHERE IS THE MONEY??

fluctuates between ~$9.6 MILLION and $27 MILLION, depending on obvious factors like stock prices, investment valuations, etc. More info: http://www.bop2004.org/bop2004/candidate.aspx?cid=1&act=pfin

They must be hiding a ton of money because a 22 year old Rap Star can have that much money.
He has got to be worth more, bet it is in a Saudi Bank.

and no, Secret Service person, I am in no way threatening the president or his family. I'll be satisifed just to vote against the SOB.
