2. Why?
Her daughter implying the charges are groundless and Martha's lying are TOO much. I WAS a fan, but she isn't above the law.

If she would've just come clean she would not be doing time, at all,
and that would've been fine. A "shameful day", indeed.

3. There are many here who think she's a "scapegoat"
because she's a woman. An assertion I don't feel has any merit. She broke the law. Period. If you want to hunt down the others too, make THAT argument (and that argument SHOULD be made), but you shouldn't expect her to get off with robbing people of their hard earned retirement money.

4. Can You Prove She Committed a Crime?
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 09:44 AM by GiovanniC
The prosecutor couldn't.

The only thing the prosecutor was able to nail her on was LYING. The lie? Saying she was innocent.

To recap: Martha gets 5 months for saying she's innocent of a crime the prosecutor didn't have enough evidence to convict her of.

If that doesn't make you a LITTLE BIT SAD for your country, what will?

5. I'm always willing to give a person the benefit of the doubt...
Even OJ, for awhile. But, Martha is clearly guilty about lying about the stock transaction. Ask the CEO...(you can find him behind bars).

6. If the prosecutors couldn't prove a crime...
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 09:56 AM by freetobegay
...Then why is she going to prison? Please I get enough double speak from the Bush cabal.

9. The Crime They "Proved"
Was that she lied when she said she was innocent of the crime they couldn't prove that she committed.

10. Sounds about right
It is time in prison, but not enough to seriously damage her career. She can start up again when she's out.

And we're talking about tens of thousands not hundreds of millions or billions.

12. Even if she doesn't win her appeal...
She'll be out & successful again while you're still selling on cafeshops.

17. I don't worship Martha.
A fine & community service would have been more fitting punishment--especially since they couldn't even charge her with insider trading.

However, she's a tough woman & will probably do OK.

There are some interesting things for sale on Cafeshops--products with both political meaning & aesthetic appeal.
