By insisting Cheney is staying, the Bushies means they're dumping his ass.

NOTE TO THE MODS: I am not speculating on the death of the Vice President, merely talking about the possibility of them making up some phony medical story to justify throwing Cheney overboard. The last time I posted a thread on this topic, it was taken down. Please let this one live. Thanks.

That said, every time I hear Ed Gillespie or some other Bush stooge insist that Cheney is not leaving the ticket, I become more convinced that they're planning to drop him for "medical reasons". They have to know that Cheney can only hinder their chances, especially by pitting him against John Edwards. And by dumping him now, they'll be admitting that their were failures at the highest levels of this administration, and we know they'll never do that.

So I'm expecting that between now and October, the Bush people will say that Cheney has had another heart attack, whether he has or not. By removing him for "medical reasons" they can dodge any criticism from the media as to their reason for dumping him, but we will know the truth. By giving up his office, Cheney wouldn't even have to give up that much power. He could easily remain behind the scenes and still call the shots, but without any of that pesky media attention preventing him from doing whatever he wants.

So I will be VERY surprised if by November we're not going up against a Bush/Powell or a Bush/Rice ticket.

And one more thing:

1. Well it would be only fair
Cheny claimed to be looking for the best person to be Vice President and then picked himself.

3. I saw a clip from an interview on Countdown (I think) in which Cheney said

"The President begged me to be on the ticket in 2000."

He can't even tell the truth about the most basic, well known subjects!

I was in bed watching television and about fell out I was laughing so hard!

Edited to add: Here is the transcript

DICK CHENEY, VICE PRESIDENT: If I thought it were appropriate, I would. He‘s made it very clear that he wants me to run again. The way I got here in the first place was he persuaded me four years ago that I was the man he wanted in that post, not just as a candidate but as somebody to be part of the governing team. And he‘s been very clear, he doesn‘t want to break up the team.

2. I disagree.
I think they're stuck with him at this point. I think only Rice would accept the VP role out of the McCain, Powell, Rice possibilities, and good luck selling a black woman to the pissed off uberconservative bigot types.

4. It's possible. . .
Cheney, I suppose, could continue to be the President without even being the VP. But don't expect to see Powell on the ticket. I don't think he likes Bush THAT much. Also, don't expect to see Rice. Bush's voting base would balk at the thought of a black man (let alone a black woman) being the Vice President. I mean, that would put them one pretzel away from the White House.

A little while ago, Rummy would have been a good pick, but not any more. You don't even see him or hear about him in the news now. The thing is, they don't HAVE anyone else.

John Ashcroft? Couldn't beat a dead guy, can you imagine him going against someone as charismatic as Edwards?

Paul Woflowitz? Most Americans get him confused with Wolf Blitzer.

John McCain? I think he'd have some Cheney-esque advice for Dubya if he was asked.

6. I think McCain is the most likely
He's an ambitious man, and he knows articles of impeachment have already been drawn up against the Idiot, and are only awaiting the election results for filing (or forgetting).

Cheney is on his way out. There are no Bush/Cheney04 signs or stickers around, and the Bush attack ads never mention Cheney as being part of the ticket. You bet your butt he's off the ticket, even if he and the idiot don't know it yet.

5. Well, Bush loves baseball...
We all know Bush loves baseball (the first love of any true Texan...)and, everybody knows that when the baseball team owner gives the manager the dreaded "vote of confidence", it means the manager's days are numbered.
