Does anyone like "Unfiltered" on Air America? |
|
I think it's the weak link in the otherwise stellar Air America lineup.

1. on the brighter side, at least it isn't "Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered" |
|
I can't believe that twit had the nerve to use "Take Five"

5. I was pretty excited about Air America when it first started... |
|
... but I'm kind of sheepish to admit that it just doesn't work for me, and I haven't listened for weeks. But I'm glad its out there, they have some great people.

26. Looks like you're about average. |
|
Since their ratings are reported as plummeting after the initial hype died down.
I can't stream anything but Randi's show and rarely get to that, so I'm not helping things either.

I love everything they do on that show. I don't get how anyone would think it's not funny--frankly I think Unfiltered is better than the O'Franken Factor. I like Al, he's a great guy, but that show puts me to sleep.
To each their own I guess. I just think it's cool there's even a thread comparing the liberal radio talk show hosts...plural. :)

I prefer the weakest program on AAR to any RW radio program.

|
The three of them have great chemistry and they take on issues even the rest of AAR won't touch. I love it.
And it's got Chuck D! How can you hate Chuck D? :)

15. I love Chuck D!! I just wondered what everyone else thought... |
|
of the show...
Al is my favorite, Randi is my second fave and Morning Sedition is my third...
On a personal note, I would have never thought way back in 1987 when I bought the "Black Steel in The Hour of Chaos" cassette single that I would be listening to Chuck D as a political host on a nationally syndicated liberal radio network.

Chuck's come a long way. :)
I don't get to listen to Morning Sedition much (too early for me :P), but when I can catch it it's pretty good. I like Mark Maron's humor, especially the fax from Barbara Streisand.
Isn't it cool we can even have this conversation?

I love all three of them, they have good personalities and work well together. And I notice the show before it is getting better without the woman that was on it that was named Sue.

19. It labors under the burden of having to support Kerry-Edwards |
|
who continues to stand by their votes and lack any cohesive and convincing arguments in defense of it. They are compromised as party shills. Here is a clue for Kerry-Edwards: If they were to take a moral position on the war and spell it out as a disaster in it's institution--not it's execution, they will resonate with the vast majority of the voters and, chances are, they could minimize the Nader factor.
It is good for picking up Democratic party talking points.

20. I love it. More fun and substance thanFranken |
|
I like Unfiltered a lot. It's entertaining, funny and also touches on a variety of subjects and progressive issues beyond the GOP bashing. And they get a lot of interesting guests.
I do have a few quibbles. I wish they didn't devote shows to themes, but would cover more of a mix within each show.
I also think they get a little too much into teen-age bathroom humor that's more annoying and funny.
But overall I think it's one of the bright spots in their line up.

22. It's my favorite on AA. |
|
It's great radio, unlike some of the others. The three of them keep it moving with those "unfunny" lines and patter. Im falling in love with Liz Winstead, and she's just perfect for drive time.
Except for the interviews, I can't stand Franken. Even in interviews, he's not always so hot. He hasn't gotten his radio "voice," and bores the crap out of me more often than not. Liz and Rachel can say more with one pun than Franken does with five minutes of ramblings and hesitation. And the oyoyoy show has got to go. Katherine's the radio pro, and the difference between her and Al hits you over the head. Notice how she steps in to keep things moving, even during interviews.
Garofolo's got some problems with being on radio every night, too. Like Franken, she just doesn't seem to get what being on air is all about. Having to spend all that time explaining that she doesn't really hate her co-host just doesn't work. Make it a schtick, or leave it alone.
Rhodes has her own style, which I find grating at times, but she does a great job with the few interviews she does.
Talk radio has to be both entertaining and informative. AA is informative, most of the time, but it's not always entertaining. It's not out there to preach to the choir, but to make new friends. Something it won't do if people have a hard time listening to it.
I'm never all that interested in talking heads blabbing, either on TV or the radio. Most of the time I listen to WNYC, our NPR station, where there are hours of interviews, with the subjects getting a solid 20 minutes to an hour to make their case. The simple truth is that I learn a lot more from WNYC than from AA.

it has improved a lot since it's beginning. Rachel Maddow has turned into an excellent interviewer. The subjects they cover are broad, entertaining and interesting.
Also, Morning Sedition is better than it was. What happened to the woman(Sue Elliston?) with the British accent who was on with Maron and Mark Riley?
I cannot stand Franken. His show definately does not live up to the big hurrah publicity it was given in the beginning. I do not tune in to his show much any more. I much prefer Thom Hartman--He is far more focused and far more in tune and aware of the political issues--he had Bernie Sanders on today answering callers.

29. That would be Sue Ellicott... |
|
who was, and may still be, a BBC reporter. Rumor has it she may be doing live coverage of the conventions for AAR.
She's still around as a regular on NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" and a few other part-time gigs.
I think she was also a regular on Moore's old TV show, "TV Nation." Great dry British wit when given a chance.
BTW, I caught the interview with the Canadian consul-general on "Unfiltered," and that woman had Winstead and Maddow (and me)cracking up. One of the most hilarious interviews since John Stewart had McCain on.

Good chemistry between the hosts and I love Liz Winstead's quick wit and touches of silliness and self deprecation; she's a hoot. I never cared for Mark Maron's stand-up comedy routines but he's very good on Morning Sedition. Of the four shows I listen to, I'd say the order of preference would be:
1) Unfiltered 2) Morning Sedition 3) Randi 4) Al (with Al and Randi being neck and neck but she gets bonus points for being more liberal than Al)

30. I listen to AAR all day, generally I like Unfiltered |
|
I think Rachel is very intelligent and does a good job keeping things on track. Lizz is very funny and generally well informed. Chuck D is pretty quiet and late a lot (lol). Wish he'd chime in more. I think the Unfiltered talking point is a great thing, especially for those that don't read a lot online, etc. I also liking the idea of the blog to get the actually source of things instead of having to walk around saying "I heard on the radio."
Generally, I'm pretty happen with AAR lineup. I think maybe 3 hours for any show is a little too long though. More shows at 2 hours a piece might be the answer.
