Bring that little-old-lady election worker in the booth with you. Talk her through your ballot -- "Now, Gertrude, I'm going to pull the lever/touch the screen for Kerry, OK?". Then, write a big "K" on a piece of paper and stick it in a box someone leaves in the middle of the room.

Then we'd know just how many people voted Kerry. Seriously.

There's got to be a SIMPLE, old-school way to make sure the person we vote for gets our vote. Then if there's a need for a recount, we have two ways to do it; the Diebold way and the truth way.

Whaddya think?

2. Use absentee ballots
Here in Florida, anyone can get an absentee ballot by just calling the registars office and requesting one. I have no intention of using a touch screen machine with no paper trail. I intend to use an absentee ballot, Xerox it, and send it back by registered mail.

I know that most people can't or won't take the time to do this, but I refuse to let THEM steal my vote.

3. in many states it is illegal to vote absentee if you will be in
town on election day

also some DUers have claimed that many states only count the absentee ballots if the vote is very close

4. Probably against the law in most places....
Virtually all states have secret ballot provisions (with some exceptions for the disabled, though about 75% of the disabled vote absentee, anyway).

5. No. That's option for a secret ballot if you desire it.
I think this is a good idea. Unfortunately you would have to get a witness statement notarized. Very cumbersome.

6. Videotaped exit polling?
There's got to be some way -- even if it's just in a few of the most potentially salient places, to have a separate vote that people can verify for themselves?

And if secret balloting is a law, how fucking ironic is that? The only place bush et al will allow people to have privacy is the voting booth so they can steal another election and then use their power to keep the Patriot Act alive. Ha!!

7. take the day off.. make a picnic lunch
bring a notary public with you.. spread out a big blanket and ask the dems who just voted ..to join you.. Just don't leave the polling place, area.. Make your plan and notify the media, that since you cannot be assured that your vote will count, and there is likely to be NO WAY TO RECOUNT your votes, maybe they CAN count your bodies :)

The notary could supervise a written record of "exited" dem voters who volunteered their names..

The repubes MUST be put on notice that we will not take it anymore:)

8. From your lips to God's ear, however,
if there's any way the rethugs can find to steal another election, they're going to do it.

The real question is, what do we do then? Take up arms? Move to Canada, of Denmark, or wherever? Unfortunately, I don't have a clue as to what we can do to get these Huns out of power.

I find that I'm symphathizing with Germans in the mid to late 30s who "got it" and couldn't do a damn thing to stop it.

11. You would have to leave the polling area...
Such a gathering would likely be considering campainging within the specified distance of a polling place.

It's still a good idea for a post election rally nearby.

9. I have been saying it for a long time
Vote early. Ask the poll workers for the voting machine's control number. Let them see you write it down. And then send an email to the democractic party (local, state, or national) with the subject line "Voted for Kerry". That way they can be filtered to a folder and not used unless needed.
In the body of the email put the time of day, your precinct number and location and the type of machine and the machine control numberand finally your name and adress/telephone number.
The democratic party can use these emails to prove fraud if they have to. Some might say that this violates the secret ballot principle, but that is a small price to pay to ensure that your vote is counted.

10. I think that maybe illegal
Campaigning for a candidate within a polling place is illegal.

Whether stating your intention to for Kerry out loud violates this, I am unsure.
