Freepers were behind whoopi getting dropped (links)
What, I thought it was the "outrage form slim-fast customers and real 'muricans' and not an organized rightwing letter campaign. that's what rush said on today's show

---
Boycott SlimFast's filthy mouthed spokesperson, Whoopi

If any of you are offended by Whoopi Goldberg's disgusting and outrageous remarks at John Kerry's fundraiser the other night, please boycott SlimFast products and write them to let them know how you feel about her as a spokesperson.

Costco's version of slim-fast shakes. Cheaper, better tasting, and doesn't sit in your stomach like a can of mud.

4. I sent an email to Slim-Fast before they fired her asking them
not to give into right-wing extremists. Then they fired Whoopi. Today I received a reply to my email:

Thank you for your recent email concerning Slim-Fast Foods Company
advertising and sponsorships. We appreciate your comments and have forwarded them to our Marketing Department. Slim-Fast Foods Company
is owned by Unilever. I do not have a list of all the other companies
they own but I am sure it is available on their website. www.unilever.com

We sincerely hope that this and all your future experiences with
Slim-Fast products are enjoyable.

this is what I emailed back to her:

Jennifer:
Actually, after Slim-Fast decided to fire Whoopi Goldberg, I'll pay special attention not to buy any Slim-Fast products or products from Unilever. And I will share my opinion of your company with my family and friends.

This is still a free country and people still have the right to speak their mind. Unilever gave into the pressure of a few (but very organized) right-wing extremist, all probably members of the hate-filled, right-wing extremist website www.freerepublic.com who urged members to complain to Slim-Fast.

xxxxx xxxxxxx

I can live without their products. It might be a hassle to figure out what not to buy, but this is worth the effort.

6. I say F-ck them and their repressive consumers
Let's compile a list of the products and make every effort to make them realize that caving into a vocal minority is stupid.

Although I still haven't seen a transcript, I can only imagine what Whoopi said, and I'm sure I will applaud when I do see it. Whoppi is a brilliant woman, so I'm sure she considered any repercussions, and then she decided, "F-ck them".

Anyone got a link for the transcript? I need a good laugh to start my weekend.

The species of freepers hates their bodies. So they are constantly dieting in a pathetic attempt to be thin. Since Slimfast doesn't work, each freeper is a lifetime customer. 80% of their sales must come from freepers.

Head of Unilever's Slim.Fast unit to quit July 1
(Adds further comment from Unilever (LSE: ULVR.L - news - msgs) , successor)

AMSTERDAM, June 4 (Reuters) - Marc Covent, the 46-year-old president of Unilever's Slim.Fast unit, will leave the company from July 1, a spokeswoman for the Anglo-Dutch consumer goods maker said on Friday.
She said the move was not related to disappointing sales at the dieting aids business, which was late in recognising the immense success of the Atkins and South Beach diets on the U.S. market.

"Covent is leaving for personal reasons and the move has been prepared for a while. He is leaving on July 1 because that is the date at which Slim.Fast is being integrated into the food activities," the Unilever spokeswoman said.
Unilever bought both Slim.Fast and the Ben & Jerry's ice-cream brand in 2000 for a combined $2.6 billion.

Slim.Fast is busy trying to regain market share with the launch of new products and a marketing campaign featuring actress Whoopi Goldberg. Covent, who has been based in the United States, is handing over responsibility for the brand to Unilever food division executive Terry Olson.

this could turn out to be one of another bad management decisions made by the execs of this company. Striking out boldly, only to be defeated by the backlash created.

what on earth gave them a right to complaing about something they heard about second hand?

Shame on Slimfast. Maybe 99 percent of its customers are couch veggie freeper gals, but what about us minority of fat liberals?

No, I mean, doesn't anyone have a right to express an opinion? After all, the bit was seen only at a PRIVATE PARTY! It was not intended for publuc consumption., Didn't Whoopi have the expectation of privacy?

Stinks.

Some time ago, I could understand if small companies were bamboozled into thinking the complaint campaign was broadly based and not a political assault. Now, there is no excuse.

17. I already did and they responded instantly back to me:
I sent them the whole freerepublic link with my email. This is their response:

Thank you for your recent email with the update. I have passed this on to Marketing as well. I did want to just inform you that not all information in the press is valid. Slim-Fast Foods Company was sold to Unilever (an English/Dutch company) in 2000. The person who they may be talking about is Mr Danny Abraham who is very politically involved. He sold Slim-Fast in 2000 and is no longer the owner and has no association with our company now. It is against Unilever policy to make political contributions. We would like to keep you as a customer and we hope you can continue to enjoy Slim-Fast products for healthy weight management.

I hope they are checking out the whole thread with all the comments. These disgusting freepers are worst than scum.

22. Glad to see you rumguy
I was beginning to think you had been disappeared.

I really think we should spend our time putting out fliers to the public instead of waisting time sending letters to the real RW pressure, companies like Unilever.
The DuogfromUpland losers didn't do this. Unilever did and companies like them will continue to do this if we let them.

Tools of democratic dissent no longer work against fascists.

We need them to hear about our campaigns not from emails we send but from distributors and retailers that we have blocked or hindered from selling the products.
