Schwarzenegger, Dems clash over budget
Friday, July 16, 2004 Posted: 10:57 AM EDT (1457 GMT)

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger talks to reporters Thursday about the budget debate.

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- Negotiations on a state budget broke down again Thursday amid intense partisan bickering as Democratic leaders and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger blamed each other for the impasse that could force the state to borrow more money.

Schwarzenegger, accusing the Legislature's Democratic majority of stalling the talks, promised to "fight like a warrior for the people of California."

"There is no one that can stop me. Anyone who pushes me around, I will push back -- including the Democrats and the special interests."

The state budget is more than two weeks overdue, despite the governor's predictions of a new era of cooperation and his vow to produce an on-time spending plan. The state has met its budget deadline only twice in the last decade.

Schwarzenegger's tough talk came shortly after Democratic Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez blamed Republican legislators for the lack of progress.

1. Looks like Ah-nuld is learning the Jesse Principle
After you go out on the stump yippin' and yappin' about the "obstructionists" in the state legislature, you have to sit down with them at the table and work out the differences. Nominal Republican Ah-nuld is finding out a little late that he has to work with a Democratic majority, and his party "allies" aren't too thrilled to be have as their champion some political dilletante who doesn't do the caucus thing.

Just terminate them, Ah-nuld! You'll be bock!

3. "Are Californians fucking stupid?"
No more so than Americans as a whole. Remember who is sitting in the Whitehouse.

6. A warrior knows when to bend and not break
And since when did the planning of funds allocation have to be like storming a beachhead? Plus, this impasse isn't even over funds!

Howdya like Sacramento now, you big bully?

8. Hey, we'd love to recall him.
It's just that we don't have someone on our side funding a multimillion dollar recall campaign and media blitz. We also don't have a celebrity candidate waiting in the wings with pre-crafted catchphrases and a politically connected wife.

9. Why don't we ask Martin Sheen

He makes a fine Prez on TeeVee, and he has the "left cred" that
progressives want. And a big plus is that all of the family dirt
is well known (Charlie... what did you call porn star Ginger Lynn
again? Ah yes. "Most girls are just hamburger, but Ginger is
like Fillet Mignon").

Anyway, that's my vote.

Oh, yeah, and while we are about it, let's unprivatize the electric
utilities and embark on a $100 B project to make the electric power
grid completely green powered. We float the bonds, sign up the
rate payers to pay off the bonds, and have lower electric bills and
more electric power uses in CA, without producing more greenhouse
gas or nuclear waste.

Can be done.

Just saying.
