3. Funny? Sorry, Whoopie Isn't All That Funny
and the only thing more stupid than watching the GOP make a mountain over a mole hill is watching DU'ers DO THE SAME THING.

Whoopie's comment wasn't particularly offensive, funny OR original.

By the way, Slimfast DONATES DEMOCRATS PEOPLE!

6. I STRONGLY disagree. She plays directly into the rightwingers' hands
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 08:26 PM by demo@midlife
by personifying their stereotype of the "Hollywood liberal left." What she said does not bother me personally (even though I usually find that stuff distasteful in such a setting) but this lapse in judgment gave ammunition to the right-wing. She handed them anti-liberal talking points on a platter, and they couldn't be happier.

Right-wing America relies heavily on image, and Whoopi & her humor are NOT typical of the Democratic party. We need to portray ourselves for who we really are - a diverse crowd for sure, but some of us dress and act and speak in a surprisingly low-key manner.

Let the rethugs like Dennis Miller be the ones who are lewd, crude, and in-your-face. He's today's rightwing version of yesterday's leftwing Jerry Rubin. Let them be the ones who have to live down outrageous stereotypes; we've got better things to do.

Maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but I speak from experience. So that's my $.02 worth; flame me if you want.

On edit: grammar correction

12. "lapse in judgment"????
Uh ...... I find it astounding you would think that a comedian, speaking at a fund-raiser, making jokes about the president who can only be described as godawful ..... is experiencing a "lapse in judgment".

Wow.

We need everybody in the country to start criticiizing the goddamn president. Loudly. With or without humor. Everybody needs to open their windows and start shouting out into the streets.

Oh, except you. You want to play it safe and not "play into their hands".

Ugh. Tom Daeschle, is that you?

10. someday when we have a Democratic Underground Convention
Whoopi, Margaret Cho, Hillary and Susan Sarandon can all be the primetime speakers.

I really think we need an alternative venue for US!
