What beer can I buy now????
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 09:24 PM by El Supremo
SENATOR TO THE SUDS

$3,000: Amount Miller Brewing, Anheuser Busch and Heineken contributed to Pete Coors' Senate run, even though they might be business rivals.

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_3041138,00.html

I gave up Coors when this Nazi Nut declared for office. Now I've got to boycott Bud, Miller and Heineken too? Hey, I thought that Miller was a union company. What gives?

Man, you should also read about all the insane pro/anti gay mud that is being slung by the company, Pete and his Repug opponent Bob Schaffer. Pete says that he is as much as a homophobe as Bob. Bob says that Pete is a gay lover because his company gives benefits to same sex couples. The company says that Pete is not their spokesman. What a circus!

16. As long as you read the label first!
Coors does make some psuedo-Belgian ales, after all. I believe the brand name is "Blue Moon".

You're better off going with....

Yeah, they aren't actually from Belgium either. But they beat the living shit out of anything Coors, Buttweiper, or Miller ever made or will ever make.

3. Miller and Anhueser Busch are both Union breweries
What the corporate people do has nothing to do with the workforce. Many many companies have donated to candidates contrary to the Union's choice. Most corporations in fact. Support Union made products.

5. buy local
but don't punish the workers just because the corporation donates to Republicans. Except Coors, they are a very evil organization from the top down.

6. Corporations can't contribute
These are either PACS run by the corporations, or people who work there. It's a big difference -- if someone who does Miller's IT support contributes $250 to Pete Coors, it's not a big deal. If the PAC gives him big bucks, it's a bigger deal (unless the PAC gave tons of money to lots of candidates -- then, it's more covering their bases than supporting one individual candidate).

Let's take Miller.

Here's a search of people from Miller Brewing who contributed at least $200 in the 2004 election cycle to federal candidates or PACs. It seems that there were Dean and EMILY's list contributors, and many PAC contributions from the execs.

http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/search.asp?NumOfThou=0&txtName=&txtState=%28all+states%29&txtZip=&txtEmploy=Miller+Brewing&txtCand=&txt2004=Y&Order=N

Now, the PAC's disbursements are interesting -- more Repub than Dem, but not horrifyingly lopsided (and everyone in WI gets a piece):

Hmm...there wasn't anything about Pete Coors on either list.
http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.asp?ID=COS1&Cycle=2004
Hmm...Coors hadn't filed a report as of July 9. I guess we'll have to wait for the updated data (due yesterday, should be uploaded in a few days) to find out for sure where these contributions are coming from.

9. Samuel Adams - America's World-Class Beer, donated to Kerry!
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 08:54 PM by Rebellious Republica
You can't be much more of a Patriot than Sam Adams.....

Kerry clearly had the edge among the area's movers and shakers, with donations from Michael Dukakis, Staples chief executive officer Ronald Sargent, Boston Beer chairman Jim Koch and FleetBoston Financial Corp. CEO Charles Gifford. Dean's most well-known contributors were singer Carly Simon and actor James Belushi, but his contribution list was short on high-ranking officials and executives.
