C'mon let's name 'em! (Eisenhower...)And why are we still saddled by leaders whose ancestors hail from the British Isles? No value judgements, but it just occured to me that the "Great Melting Pot" is still run by the sons of Great Britain and Ireland.

10. His family is Czech and Jewish. |

And I think your issue is with WASPs not with Irish Catholics like Kennedy and Clinton. The Irish Catholics were called white niggers for a good portion of the 19th and early 20th century so they aren't really part of the establishment.

And there are enough racists left in America to ensure they keep getting elected.

Only Jack Kennedy and Bill Clinton were proud of the fact! Nixon used it for votes after he found a connection (Via Quakers) and Ronnie mocked the cobblestone hard heads of the Irish when he visted Boston!

Which is one of the reasons he was mocked as a poor president and not the general that won the Civil War.

I read somewhere that the largest "white" ethic group claims to be of German heritage. With the rare exception of the old Dutch colonialist families; Roosevelts and Van Buren, the ancestors from the British Isles still remain in the top positions of power in this country, which I find strange.

11. Kerry's paternal grandfather was an immigrant Jew |
|
he changed his last name to kerry because of anti semetism. his real last name was "kohn". his grandfather also ended up commiting suicide.
kerry's father was a government worker. while kerry has a lot of blue blood from his mother's side. his father's side of the family had a very tough time. and i guess it could be said they have also been lucky in "marrying up" as kerry himself says he did.
kerry's grandfather comes from a little town in czech republic or soome other eastern european nation and they were excited when they heard the grandson(john kerry) was going to run against bush. they also would like him to visit there. i think it would be nice for him to visit also.
