Possibility of military draft growing
Ryan Welch, of Marietta, has friends serving in Iraq, friends who have served and returned, and friends soon going to war.

If called, or drafted, Welch, 22, a former college student who is currently not in the military, said he would be proud to serve.
The word "draft" is no longer being whispered, even in Marietta.

"I'd have no problem serving my country, if it ever got to the point I was needed, if there ever was a draft," Welch said. "It's a responsibility."

YES! We must respect AUTHORITY at all costs! If drafted, you must serve and fight in the president's wars!

1. And would he still obey
if he was ordered to use his weapon against American citizens?

3. Listen to this Democrat!:

""It's not a certainty, but it is a strong possibility," U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, D-Lisbon, said Friday. "If people have sons and daughters in their teen years, they need to be paying attention."

 :wow:

Is that the current mainstream Democratic Party position? I don't want him to be pilloried for just being brave enough to clue the rest of us in. Is this "strong possibility" unspoken but understood among his colleagues? Let's think about how "far-out" it is, given how freakin' interventionist both the Democratic and Republican establishments (as usual) are. Please note the "well over 100 countries" comment:

Manpower pressures in Iraq and in Afghanistan have reached a boiling point, and just one more crisis or "hot spot" in the world could force a draft.

Strickland said troop strength in Iraq is stretched thin.

"We cannot continue to call back guardsmen and reservists who have already fulfilled their contractual obligation," he said. "We are in well over 100 countries, at different levels. We just pulled troops out of South Korea because of pressures in Iraq."

Bringing back conscription seems not so far-fetched if business is to continue as usual, right? Something's gotta give somewhere, or we in the U.S. are gonna have to do some painful "giving" of our own.

In the meantime, should we organize "enlistment drives" for freepers?
