Rep. Corrine Brown Censured by U.S. Congress
For Saying 2000 Election Was Stolen; Serious Free Speech Issue

There are several links on this page to express your disapproval for what they did to Rep. Brown, as well as the link I've included here for the petition for monitoring.

<http://www.buzzflash.com/alerts/04/07/ale04016.html>

You might want to add to your note that you support the original request for some kind of monitoring to occur (Earlier this week we covered this petition urging Carter Center oversight and observation of 2004 Presidential Election:

2. A House rule is not a law, you know.
They can limit free speech in the House by a rule and it doesn't violate the Constitution.

3. I was kind of wondering about this today.
A long time ago, Julian Bond got in trouble for criticizing the Vietnam War from the floor. It was not Congress, as I remember it, but the statehouse in Georgia, where he was a very young representative.

They tried to kick him out of his job, and he took it to the Supreme Court. They upheld his right to free speech.

What could be different about the U.S. House of Representatives? I know they are not trying to kick her out, but doesn't she have the same right that Bond had, as upheld by the SC?

One would think the Constitution would take precedence over a House rule. But I guess that would be asking much in the age of "free speech zones"

6. At the very least, it seems like the rules of the House of Reps
should CONFORM to the Constitution. If not in our very own house of law, there where SHOULD those protections be given?

7. Somebody ought to be bringing this up in the Senate
You can say whatever the fuck you want in the Senate, or so I've heard.

you are Vice President of the United States... then you can get off on a technicality for the minor infraction of verbally assaulting a Senator - without even having to apologize. Free fuckin speech, you know. In fact you can get away with a lot of things... war profiteering, war crimes, treason, to name a few.

Ah to be Vice President, and in a permanently undisclosed safe location. The troubles of the real world can't hurt you, and seem so luxuriously far away. And dangerous people like Patrick Leahy can't set you off. Must be so nice to live in a shell where you can make some important decisions that result in thousands of innocent people being killed, and emerge when it's time to raise cash or cuss at Democrats. The best news is if you screw up at all, you just send your wife out to soften your image up, or make an appearance on Rush Limbaugh's show (not even remotely a hate-fest) or Fox News (not even remotely biased). What a great fuckin life.

Those Republicans, bringing on some major league Honor and Integrity. And if you don't think so, you can go fuck yourself, because you are a major league asshole.
