The Republicans' greatest gift is ...
their ability to distort, conflate, and turn non sequitur into propaganda that is believed by many people.

Harry Truman summed them up very well, many times but one of his best was when discussing Richard Nixon: "He's a lying son of a bitch and if he had to depend on the truth to speak, he'd have very damned little to say."

Harry was right about Tricky Dick and the same can be applied even more vigorously to George W. Bush, one of the most massive prevaricators of modern times. Every single ad that he airs, every single campaign pronouncement, and every bit of spin from his campaign counts on their ability to turn lies into conventional wisdom. This is what we will have to overcome.

This has been their pattern since Reagan. Each time. If the truth comes out, they cannot win. Bill Clinton managed to get the truth out there and if we have any sense whatsoever, we will respond as quickly and as forcefully to the lies, smears, distortions, and innuendo as the Clinton campaign did in '92.

It is the only way to combat these bastards. Shine the light on their lies, expose their secrets, and take the fight to them. Never let them off defense.

1. Tricky Dick was a RINO
and he opened up relations with China.

But he was a lying sack of horseshit and a crook so he chose the right party. If he was a wingnut or a neo-con he might not have been caught.

3. Any Dem going to China at the time would have been denounced as a
commie sympathizer.

Fuck Nixon. He paved the way for our corporations to exploit them and to make cheap plastic American flags that fade in about 2 days under the sun (must be a parallel to America's love affair with oil and how quickly we'll fade away after peak oil subsides...)
