Start the countdown clock for the number of days until Sean Hannity has an aneurysm. James Brolin's been nominated for Emmy for his role as the Gipper. At least it will guarantee Michael Reagan steady employment as a Hannity guest in the days leading up to the ceremonies. Will Bill O'Reilly call for a boycott of the Emmys? How will Rupert's Boys respond? Stay tuned.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=597&e=2&u=/nm/20040716/tv_nm/television_reagans_dcLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actors always claim to be surprised when nominated for an award, and after the hue and cry over the TV movie "The Reagans," actor James Brolin says he truly never expected to earn Emmy recognition for the film.
"It was the most absurd idea I've ever heard, playing Reagan," Brolin, who turns 64 this month, recalled Thursday in an interview after earning an Emmy Award nomination for his performance in the controversial film.
But reading the script for the first time, Brolin decided the part was the kind of colorful, character role he always relished but rarely got to play.
"I got 40 minutes into it and thought, 'Whoah, here's Quasimodo,"' he told Reuters, alluding to the tragic protagonist of Victor Hugo's classic "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." "Not that Reagan was Quasimodo, but I do love my characters, and I never get to play them."
