Martha is the trial run for the "already suffered tremendously" sentence
that will be applied to Ken Lay and other repuke criminals. "Tough on crime" republicans everywhere are showing sympathy for MS as part of an effort to soften the public perception of white collar crime. I've only got two questions:

1. Would you or I receive the same sentence as Martha?

2. What kind of asshole has the gall to compare herself to Nelson Mandela?

1. If you believe that prison....
...serves the purpose of rehabilitation and punishment....nothing is gained from Martha serving jail time. She has suffered. I missed the part where Repubs 'everywhere' showing any sympathy for her. If jail time on the other hand is just for vengance - then she should have gotten more time! Frankly - her prosecution was for 'show' to make it look like the administration was tough on white collar crime.

4. The rehabilitation value of prison is certainly debatable
but leniency based on a loss of status, is absurd. Anyone who endures a criminal trial suffers in some way. People lose their reputations, positions, businesses, jobs, families... However, if these unfortunate side-effects of prosecution where taken into consideration in every sentencing, no one would ever serve any time at all. The rich and famous get extra deference in this country, no doubt about it.

6. The Rich Have ALWAYS had....
...a different brand of justice than the rest of us. Martha is certainly not the first. They can afford better counsel than the rest of us. I am not saying its right but Martha is not the place to start drawing comparisons.

11. She didn't do anything
She lied to investigators, and that is a crime deserving 5 months? She didn't lie in court did she? Am I missing something?

Her big crime is giving money to democrats and being a powerful woman who runs her own business.

in fact most judges would probably throw it out or not guilty. most states attorneys wouldn`t bring it to trial..lying about something that wasn`t a crime?

martha is a bitch-always was always will be. that is the kind of asshole she is. she`s a shallow ,nasty person...

3. Please remember that Martha is a Democrat
and some have stated that they think the reason she was gone after with such a vengence was politically motivated.

7. I heard the interview...
she wasn't comparing herself to Nelson Mandela.....jesus...she said "Look at Nelson Mandela, if he can do what he did I can do this." I think she was trying to say that 5 months in jail is nothing compared to 27 years...

9. SHE DID NOT COMPARE HERSELF TO MANDELLA!!!
She used the comparison for prospective, meaning that 5 months is nothing compared to 28 years and that if someone can do 28 years than 5 months is easy. I wish that people who didn't even watch the interview would quit make such insulting comments. :argh:
