What music will you play when Kerry wins?
As soon as it's announced, I'm going to move my speakers to the windows and blast "Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead, the Wicked Witch Is Dead," to the whole neighborhood.

What else would be appropriate?

Just for the sake of nostalgia. ;) I still have vivid memories of 1992 and that song has ALWAYS done it for me.

26. That song is burned in me from the '92 convention
it was totally unexpected. That song never meant anything to me before then.

Now, it would be the only appropriate song should Kerry win.

3. Mr. Blue Sky......by ELO
Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' ev'rybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day hey,hey

Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mister blue sky is living here today hey, hey

Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?

Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration, mister blue sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for

Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Ev'rybody smiles at you

Mister blue sky, mister blue sky
Mister blue sky

Mister blue, you did it right
But soon comes mister night creepin' over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I'll remember you this
I'll remember you this way

Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?

Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Ev'rybody smiles at you
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba

Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun

11. 4th movement of Shostakovitch's 7th symphony
although it will be much more a celebration of the fascist's defeat
than about a Kerry win...

I recommend to all DUers to learn about the context in which
that symphony was composed.
Did you know that its score was microfilmed and flown from
Russia to the US in '44, where until the end of WWII was played
regularly at the Metropolitan?

12. And let's not forget the Shostakovich 11th...
... which was supposedly about "The Year 1905" and the massacre of protesting Russians outside the Tsar's winter palace -- but was actually about the suppression of the Hungarian Uprising. The second movement is almost pronographic in its depiction of Soviet tanks and troops machine-gunning protesters. Shostakovich's most explicit and subversive major work.

23. Springsteen's "Land of Hope and Dreams"
Edited on Sat Jul-17-04 01:41 PM by DeepModem Mom
Bruce Springsteen---Land Of Hope And Dreams

Grab your ticket and your suitcase
Thunder's rolling down the tracks
You don't know where you're goin'
But you know you won't be back
Darlin' if you're weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We'll take what we can carry
And we'll leave the rest

Big Wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

I will provide for you
And I'll stand by your side
You'll need a good companion for
This part of the ride
LEAVE BEHIND YOUR SORROWS
LET THIS DAY BE THE LAST
TOMORROW THERE'LL BE SUNSHINE
AND ALL THIS DARKNESS PAST

Big wheels roll through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

This train
Carries saints and sinners
This train
Carries losers and winners
This Train
Carries whores and gamblers
This Train
Carries lost souls
This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
Bells of freedom ringin'
This Train
Carries broken-hearted
This Train
Thieves and sweet souls departed
This Train
Carries fools and kings
This Train
All aboard

This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
BELLS OF FREEDOM RINGIN'

32. Because "faith will be rewarded" has given me hope for a long time...
and because Springsteen's words about "this train" of a nation, that carries all of us, fly in the face of Bush's divisive theme that only Americans who live in his idea of some kind of "heartland" are truly American. When she first heard the song, one of my daughters said, "He's written a new national anthem." To me, the song harks back to "This Land Is Your Land," and the real greatness of our country.

And I will cry my ass off for joy. And I'll feel hope again.

I love Johnny Nash's I Can See Clearly Now, but apparently so does everyone else. Hey, do we DUer's have good taste or what?

:toast: So, I'm gonna pick Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire, by the great Jimmi Hendrix. I picked it because it absolutely rocks, and because they played it after Kerry won the New Hampshire primary, with all the firefighters in the audience.
