Arkansas to bu$h: be afraid
Edited on Sat Jul-17-04 05:46 PM by dbt
Dear Sir:

Your handlers certainly know, whether or not they have told you, that two polls show you losing Arkansas to Kerry/Edwards. Both Zogby and Rasmussen indicate that you will not be getting the Wonder State's six electoral votes this year.

This is a Bad Thing for you, Sir, and I think you need to start looking for another line of work. You see, a place like Arkansas ought to be a lock for somebody like you--but it's not.

For all the Liberals we have given the world--Fulbright, Bumpers and Clinton--we are a conservative state. Our churches are packed on Sundays and on Wednesday nights. We own guns, we drive pickup trucks and we do not tolerate homosexuality. LONG after 9/11, you could not find a place that "supported our President" more than Arkansas did. We got your Family Values down here, Sir.

Lord, but we hate and fear Yankees! We know all about Taxachusetts and how them Libruls always want to raise our taxes and take away our guns and teach Witchcraft in kindergarten. We CRAVE a Good Christian Man in the White House. Somebody as God-fearin' and HUMBLE as yourself ought not to even have to ask for our votes; they would be a given. I'm sure you and Mr. Chee-knee got some sense of our piety during the six or so trips you have made down here so far this year.

So why are you fixing to LOSE Arkansas?

I reckon it's got to do with the lying, Sir. See, you've told us about the Tax Cuts--but none of us can find anybody here who actually got one. You have told us, in your speeches here, about all the jobs you are creating. But half an hour after you leave town, the Maytag plant or the packing house will up and lay off 600 people or so. Now, we are certainly not used to riches of the material sort in Arkansas. But we damn sure take exception to our standards of living being lowered even a little. You see, they ain't that high to start with.

Then there's that matter of all our National Guard members being packed off to the desert for something that you told us was going to be a cakewalk. Then, you turn around and tell us that they are going to have to stay there longer than you told us they would when you called them up! On top of that, we've had to bury twenty or so of our finest men. (That might not sound like a lot in the grand scheme of things, but you're talking about a place where everybody knows everybody else. People talk, you know.)

With all respect, Sir, you have shit your nest with us. We will put up with a lot of things, but we will not abide a liar--especially one who is getting our young men killed off and wouldn't complete his own service to start with. We didn't have a what you would call a strong economy in the first place, and damned if it don't look like you're trying to kill that off, too.

I sorta hate to tell you this part, but a lot of Arkies have decided that you are a Sorry Bastard. We hate Sorry Bastards worse than we hate liars and queers, which is considerable. When you are seen in Arkansas to be a Sorry Bastard (or a Sorry Sumbitch), even the churches will give up on you.

This all consternates me a good bit, as I figured you'd be able to have another one of those Landslides down here. Reckon there's nothing to be done now but stand back and watch 'er fall. I just didn't want you to be surprised by your inability to carry this part of the South. Of course, it's not like you'll be in the Poorhouse next year. Word is, you're pretty well-connected. But good luck anyhow!

Your Friend,
dbt

9. Do you like "Drunker than who shit the floor"?
Edited on Sat Jul-17-04 06:17 PM by tnlefty
I don't think that it's just fecal...I say things that I then have to quickly explain to my neighbors from the north. I met a really nice woman from N.Jersey the other night and we had great fun talking and laughing at each other.

Edited to add: Zogby poll of July 6-10 had TN 48%-48% and I'm thrilled!!! I have noticed a decline in the numbers of people cussin' me over my bumperstickers and an increase in those asking where I got them and wanting some. I can only dare to hope.

is what we Yankees call "shittin' where you eat".

Great letter! Hope some southern states get it.

2. Wow, this is really excellent.
You should consider cleaning up some of the language and submitting it for publication.

(and it's also excellent that Bush is fixin' to lose Arkansas. I didn't know that!)

5. Thank you!
DU is my publication. It seems unfathomable that bu$h would lose here, but it looks like he's toast. How big a fuckup do you have to be for that to happen!

15. Don't have to clean it up
Just use a couple of asterisks and send it off. If the idioms are common parlance, a reasonable news editor should ought to let 'em stand that way.

GREAT piece, dbt, one of the best I've encountered on DU in a while.

25. I've been feeling it for a long time now.
The fact that our boys (and girls) left for Iraq in March, I think, had a big impact. I knew that when it actually started affecting some of our people personally, they would begin to see the light. Sad that it took that, though.

3. My (large) family lives in Arkansas
And they run the political gambit from hard core libertarian to Evangelical to community activist (if there is such a thing in rural Arkansas).

I visit there often and it is clear that Bush is toast in my home state. Not even the Babtist preacher can pull it out for him now.

4. I'm feeling it everywhere I go.
My neighbor is 25 yr Air Force - hates Boosh.

My boss is 25 yr Army (command Sgt Major) - won't openly support Booshboy.

My new hire programmer is in the Ark National Guard now and doesn't object to derogatory comments about GWB.

I don't personally know anyone who is supporting the lying little deserter. Course I don't hang out in West Little Rock much, either.

It's gonn'a be a very bad night for BushCo, come Nov 2.

8. Bok_Tukalo, pmn and soggy, this is what I'm talkin' about!
Not even a year ago, you'd have been hard pressed to find anybody here (except us Rabble) who would say a word against bu$h. Now they/we are coming out of the woodwoork--and the Military are becoming quite vocal.

11. I realized it Easter
My family ALWAYS discusses politics because we have such a varied political philosophy and we always want to debate what is going on in the world (and Arkansas).

When I went to visit during Easter, politics didn't come up once. Not once. Something that has NEVER happened as far back as I can remember.

13. Same here in Wild Wonderful West By Gawd!
Everywhere I go here, I hear the same sweet story you're telling! "I might have been silly enough to vote for that idiot last time, but NEVER AGAIN!" And for all the same reasons you listed above! I've had two hard core Baptist Clinton haters tell me that, "What Dick Cheney said in the Senate, REALLY sealed the deal for them!" The Preachers are ANTI-Boosh too! They also said most of their church members will not vote GOP in November!

The Southern Baptists do not like being lied to any more than you or I and they KNOW they've been had and had some more! BTW, one of these preachers has churches in 5 states that he regularly goes to, to preach! I know for a fact that he spends most of his life moving from state to state, to spread the word and the words he's spreading about Shrub ain't real kind, as of late!

I tend to believe the guy, cause he's been my uncle since 1950 and before that he was Dad's brother! He also is a highly decorated D-Day through Battle of the Bulge Vet and is still very active in veteran outreach programs! He is still mad at Clinton, but I think he likes Bush FAR Less than Clinton now! Looks like Snow Jobs and NO Jobs are finally trumping Blo Jobs!

Great letter, I too hope it comes true in Nov. I want that deadbeat prez gone from our White House. My part of NC is not too fond of shrubs or shitbirds either. Maybe our man Edwards can help burn down some shrubs and beat the bushes....

TruthIsAll is posting daily election projections that make for some mighty interesting reading. His/her analysis is pointing out some startling things--such as Arkansas going for Kerry.

It is as if herds of people are waking up from a blissful, "patriotic" dream and smelling something rotten.

23. Very well said!
My family was at Little Rock afb from 1998-2000. My husband is in e-mail contact with a couple of guys he used to work with, who have not yet seen the light, but I do believe what you said in your letter. Do you know if the base is in any danger of closing? I don't know if many Bush supporters are aware that Rummy wants to shut bases. If they are, how do they think that makes the homeland secure?
