Regime change in Iran now in Bush’s sights

By Jenifer Johnston

PRESIDENT George Bush has promised that if re-elected in November he will make regime change in Iran his new target.

Bush named Iran as part of the Axis of Evil along with North Korea and Iraq almost three years ago. A US government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that military action would not be overt in changing Iran, but rather that the US would work to stir revolts in the country and hope to topple the current conservative religious leadership.

The official said: “If George Bush is re-elected there will be much more intervention in the internal affairs of Iran.”

1. A lot of young men will also get a nice card from the government too
Reading something to the effect of:

"Greetings. You are hereby ordered to report to (insert place) on (time and date) for induction into the United States armed forces."

2. "topple the current conservative religious leadership", sounds like an
excellent idea George.

Internal revolt? Wow... Isn't that what we're going to have in this country?

5. But they really have nuclear weapons.
It is not like we will be pretending to attack someone with nuclear capabilities, they really have them. * is an asshole!

6. Okay...
So we're going to attack a known nuclear power with insufficient troops, supply lines already stretched thin, planning shot to hell by the gang of idiots Bush has appointed as generals, and the situation in Iraq already draining us of our resources?

Never mind that Iranians mostly favor the US, the opinions of their leadership notwithstanding, and are quite likely, if left alone, to form a secular democracy on their own within the next 10 years.

Oh, and ignore the fact that while we do this, we take even more energy away from the hunt for bin Laden, who is the only REAL threat here.

Let's ignore all that, and just concentrate on the logistics here. We're already stretched too thin, we've got too many troops in Iraq who are from the National Guard and reserves, many of whom have their "day jobs" as police, firefighters, EMTs, and other "first-responders". Our troops have insufficient equipment and supplies, our planning is terrible, AND we would be attacking one country from the territory of another that we have yet to secure.

As Londo Mollari* said, "Only an idiot fights a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the throne of a kingdom of idiots fights a war on twelve fronts."

* Babylon 5 character. B5 seems to be very appropriate in both mood and content for what's happening these days...

7. I fully expect the same from Kerry should he be elected
I have no doubt we are on course for war with Iran regardless of the outcome of this election.
