Message from Granny D regarding postponed elections
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 07:20 AM by G_j
Dear Friends:

What we have feared most seems now to be happening.

The following clippings should give a chill down every American's
spine: The man in the White House, who has made a career of deception
and power grabs, is maneuvering to delay the presidential elections.
The groundwork for this treachery was laid last week when the
Administration suggested that Al Qaeda would target the conventions or
the election.

Certainly, no one has better access to the bin Laden family than the
Bush family, so they just might know something.

But to delay the election? Really!

If there is a concern, urge Americans to vote by mail. All the states
are equipped to handle that.

Why does that not occur to the Administration? It is a dark question,
indeed.

Is there a real threat of terrorism, or is it an attempt to delay the
election until Bush's numbers improve, and to get American's to rally
'round the Commander in Chief? Or is it both? We would never dare ask
such questions of any other president in our long history.

What must we do?

First, call your Senator and your Representative first thing Monday,
and call them all. Demand an investigation of what the Bush
Administration knows about any possible attack. The Administration does
not have our trust and must disclose what they know to the bipartisan
Senate Intelligence Committee immediately.

Second, call your voter registration office and order your ballot by
mail. If it is too early to order your general election ballot, make a
note of the proper date and put it on your calendar.

Third, listen to the call-in radio shows in your town. Even if they are
right wing shows, call in and voice your concern. Use the mail-in
ballot issue.

Forth, write a letter to the editor of your paper, and send it in by
email.

Fifth, sign up to MoveOn and other orgs that may be in a position to
move people to action quickly. Keep an eye on ACLU websites and my own,

it is available.)

Sincerely,

Doris "Granny D" Haddock

2. I love Granny D and I'm glad she is wide awake!
She is right about contacting your reps! I believe if the mail in thing takes root the anthrax terror will start back up and scare that out of business ASAP! The neocons just dropped that deal and the American people just forgot about it!

Ever wonder why the GOPers don't seem to be all that scared of terrorists, when it comes to funding any REAL homeland security? I mean the GOP can fund every other project and tax cut they've ALWAYS wanted, but they don't really seem to take the threat of attacks serious enough to really do much to stop them money wise!

The GOP is throwing billions away on STAR WARS bullshit and these guys took us out with box cutters on 9/11! The GOPers spend billions on Iraq, airline bailouts and tax cuts, but fail to secure our railroads, borders, nuclear power plants, chemical plants, and costal oil installations! Are the GOPers Really scared of more terrorism, or are the constant threats of more terrorism simply their powerful new political tool? Why is there money for every pet GOP cause but homeland security?

4. I saw Granny D yesterday
at a town fair in Harrisville NH. She arrived wearing her campaign t-shirt and caused quite a stir. She is amazing to watch...she just goes and goes! I hope we all live as long and contribute as much as she has!

5. Good letter with one disagreement
I don't think there is a non-partisan Senate Intelligence Committee. I think from what we've seen the Intelligence committee is very partisan and any democrats on it aren't really doing much.

7. A new improved Repub plan: don't postpone, just cause chaos.
Be aware of this option as well as published on www.onlinejournal.com

Terrorism and the election: No postponement, just bedlam at the polls and a low turnout on the West Coast is Bush's plan for 'victory'

By Wayne Madsen
Online Journal Contributing Writer

<snip>

The idea of terrorism affecting the election was first proffered by the Reverend DeForest B. Soaries, Jr, the Bush-appointed chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Soaries is a right-wing former New Jersey Republican Secretary of State who has been living under the small "fanatics only" revival tent of the Christian fundamentalist crowd for some time. Soaries's job is to ensure that there is no repeat of the 2000 Florida fiasco. However, he and his friends in the Bush administration (read that as Karl Rove and Tom DeLay primarily) may have their eyes set on causing a major West Coast electoral disruption in 2004 that will make Florida 2000 look like a minor glitch by comparison.

<snip>

If the pre-election internal tracking polls and public opinion polls show the Kerry-Edwards ticket leading in key battleground states, the Bush team will begin to implement their plan to announce an imminent terrorist alert for the West Coast for November 2, sometime during the mid afternoon Pacific Standard Time. At 2:00 PST, the polls in Kentucky and Indiana will be one hour from closing (5:00 PM EST–the polls close in Indiana and Kentucky at 6:00 PM EST). Exit polls in both states will be known to the Bush people by that time and if Kentucky (not likely Indiana) looks too close to call or leaning to Kerry-Edwards, the California plan will be implemented. A Bush problem in Kentucky at 6:00 PM EST would mean that problems could be expected in neighboring states and that plans to declare a state of emergency in California would begin in earnest at 3:00 PM PST.

The U.S. Northern Command, which has military jurisdiction over the United States, will, along with the Department of Homeland Security and Schwarzenegger's police and homeland security officials in Sacramento, declare an "imminent" terrorist threat–a RED ALERT—affecting California's major urban areas.

Although the polls in California will not be closed as a result of the declaration, the panic that sets in and the early rush hour will clog major traffic arteries and change the plans of many voters to cast their ballots after work.

This is ALL a nightmare! The Supreme Court made the worst mistake in American history on 12/12/2000!

13. Good plan.
I'll send one off; my local paper rarely accepts a letter from me, and when they do they edit it into incoherence. They save most of their space for right-wing rants. But I'll give it a shot.
