Barbara Ehrenreich in NYT
"Who could have guessed that within a year and a half, the genial Bush would morph into a figure invoked worldwide to scare unruly children?"

Gee, "Barb", (pun intended), a LOT of us knew what kind of person he was. He was, after all, the guy they brought in to fire that S.O.B. Sununu the Elder. Known as a vicious partisan and not particularly swift, he was kept relatively hidden in those days, whereas handsome, genial, vaguely intelligent Jeb was a better face. Neil and Marvin were of course relegated to other "enterprises".

Anyway isn't Barbie paid to figure this stuff out ahead of us ordinary mortals? The media is just not up to this task - if they were Weather Forecasters, who aren't know for particular accuracy, they'd be out of a job.

"Who could have guessed...????" Jeez lady, wake the heck up!

6. That's sarcasm
like saying she's throwing her 'mighty weight' behind Kucinich. The reason Kucinich continued to run, and people support him even through Kerry is obviously the nominee, was to get an antiwar plank
in the Democratic platform. Looks like they will be unsuccessful.
Ehrenreich, like a lot of people here, wants to see us pull out of Iraq ASAP. Kerry talked about staying the course

2. I can't believe Ehrenreich will be gone when Friedman gets back
She's the best thing on the NYT Op-Ed. But she's only a substitute. Interesting that the Times will hire a full-blown con like Brooks full time, but anyone left of Gephardt is considered part-time piece work.

3. Ehrenreich is speaking rhetorically
for those who are just catching on now. She's known very well all along what Bush is like. Have you read her book, "Nickeled and Dimed"? Excellent.

4. I think she means it when she says she didn't know how bad Bush would be.
I sure didn't.

5. OK, I'll admit it
We knew Bush would be bad, but who could predict, he's actually even worse than our worst nightmares
