What do you think will happen if Bush is elected?
As I read articles about Kerry/Edwards and their families, they make me happy, hopeful, enthusiastic, and long for change in the WH. But then I have this dark cloud descend over me with the prospects of another 4 years with the idiot in office. I just wonder what you think will happen to this country if this crazy succeeds in fooling the people enough to be elected---notice I didn't say reelected.

3. Bush is like Adolf Hitler was in 1936
Not the Hitler of 1944, the Hitler of 1936.

Big difference.

The Hitler of 1936 had yet to show his true colors and was still trying to pass himself off as a statesman wanting peace and a better future.

Read the history of Germany 1937 to 1945 if you want to see where Bush will take us if God forbid the media lets him in again.

4. All hell will break loose. The "End Game" will be revealed.
The dystopias in books like "A Hand Maid's Tale", "Jennifer Government", 1984, "It Can't Happen Here" and "Iron Heel", will all be battling for supremacy.

Will it be the Christian Reconstructionism of "A Handmaid's Tale" where the Fundies rule afetr a brief civil war? The Multi-National Corporate One World Government of "Jennifer Government" where you have to pay the police to help you? The Totalitarian state of perpetual war like in 1984? Creeping then leaping Fascism, followed by a Civil War, within the framework of the Constitution like in "It Can't Happen Here"? Or just a flat out turn to a Corpo Fascist Dictatorship like in "Iron Heel"?

Or will it be just business as usual?

5. Things will get very bad, quickly.
The Repugs will face the reality that they can't keep borrowing and spending to create the illusion of a strong economy. They'll have to start making drastic cuts in all programs that don't benefit wealthy Repugs. The poor and the lower middle classes will get hammered.

The dollar will fall, raising the cost of imports and contributing to a return of inflation. Real wages will continue to fall. There will be a return of job losses as the economy loses the stimulus of huge deficits.

An attempt will be made to privatize part of Social Security as the first step to its ultimate destruction. The Repugs will have enough votes to do it, only the Dems in the Senate will have the chance to stop them. Given their bended knee history, I'm not optimistic they will.

The erosion of environmental protections will accelerate. The Repugs will take advantage of the post election window to do serious damage. An even more fascist "Patriot Act" will be passed.

The US position in the world will continue to erode. Terrorist activity, worldwide, will increase. Iraq will remain a mess, with the US bearing the brunt. Blair will lose big in his re-election bid because of the Bush* poodle tie-in. There will be flair ups with China. Iran and North Korea will also degenerate into very serious problems. The chance of a draft will be increased markedly.

13. And The End Of The "Conservative" Era Will Come
In the two years between the 04 election and the 06 mid-term elections there is a serious erosion of the conservative base due to the deteriorating economic situation. People will move toward progressive politicians as the bankruptcy of conservative policies hit home. The Iraq occupation, low intensity war with Iran (begun with the bombing of the Bushehr nuclear facility and subsequent sinking of a US aircraft carrier), and the 'War on Terra' grinds to a halt due to the deteriorating economic condition of the U.S.

At the mid-term elections, progressive politicians are swept into office. During this election, activism at the local level forces many election boards to papers ballots as a reaction to the 'e-voting' debacle of the 04 election.

Once the newly elected progressive Congress is seated, numerous investigations of the administration are begun. Due to parliamentary stalling tactics by the remaining conservative members of Congress, no indictments of the administration are handed down. However, the public reaction to the findings of these investigations further erodes support of conservative ideologies.

In the 08 presidential election, the most progressive president since FDR is elected, and the healing begins.

As I see it, a Kerry victory will make for a softer landing, but progressives have already won. As for our democracy, I feel that it is much stronger than many give it credit. The conservatives have held 60% of their base through misinformation. This facade will fall when hit in the face with a dose of the coming economic reality.

16. RE: And The End Of The "Conservative" Era Will Come"
I wish I could share your optimism but honestly I have never been more depressed in my entire life. I feel physically ill every time I hear Bush's voice or see that smirking face.

It doesn't help any that my son will be back in that hell hole created by Bush & his gang of thugs in another week & heaven knows when he will be home or if he will be home.

I have never hated another human being in my life but Bush is an exception and hating such an uncaring, don't give a damn person is a total waste of time. Included in that exception is Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, & a few dozen more of those old war lords and their cohorts. All I can say is that I hope they fry in hell for an eternity.

8. I posted this earlier, and I think it has some clues:
I'm not sure what this means:

President Is Still Mum on Agenda For Second Term

(snip)
"After their convention is over and we're into the August phase and into our convention, we will begin aggressively talking about the president's vision for the next four years," White House communications director Dan Bartlett said.

Said another adviser: "We are going to have a window after the Democratic convention and at our convention where people are going to say, what are you going to do the next four years? We will robustly seize that opportunity."

The details remain closely held. Presidential advisers said elements of the plan have been agreed to, with debate still underway on others. Fighting terrorism remains paramount to the president, and on domestic issues there is a consensus outside the administration that Bush is likely to renew his call for changes in Social Security.

Outside analysts are in far less agreement on whether, beyond calling for making his tax cuts permanent, Bush will push for significant tax law revisions or simplification. Bush's education focus may shift to higher education, while his health care agenda is likely to focus on some combination of medical liability reform, efforts to curb rising costs with the help of information technology and programs to reduce the number of Americans without health insurance.

Bush began this campaign year sketching out several new initiatives, including the manned exploration of the moon and eventually Mars and immigration reform. Neither, however, captured sustained attention or support. Another major proposal, a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, was soundly defeated in the Senate last week.

Waiting until his convention to offer a campaign agenda represents a major strategic shift for Bush. Some administration allies worry that the time is late to introduce a new agenda and expect voters to digest it and give the president a mandate to implement it. And Bush's political team declined to say whether they will use their advertising dollars this fall to push that agenda, or continue to attack Kerry.

But former House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said he agrees with the White House decision to wait, and predicted an ambitious package when it is unveiled. "I am told by people who have heard him talk privately that it is very powerful, that he's deeply, passionately committed and in many ways wants to stake his place in history in achieving substantial change in the country, not just as the president who led the war on terror," Gingrich said.

One Bush adviser said, "The general feeling is we've got to have the same ambition and clarity we're bringing to the international agenda to some important domestic policy issues. . . . I don't think it's accurate to say we're making a turn. It's accurate to say we're filling out a message."

9. Frightening......... another four years? Heaven help us...
Just prior to starting his illegal war, one of bu$h's most frequent requests was that we pray for him...... Never for the soldiers he was sending to their death but for him.

So I do.........

Everyday of everyweek, all year long, I pray that the next time bu$h opens his smirking mouth and tells another lie that the real God will unleash a lightning bolt that takes our bu$h and his cohorts!

Yeah, I know that's not very Christian but it fits right in with the kind of Christian that george bu$h is.....the KKK kind... Kompassionate Konservative Khristian. Hell come to think of it, that gang of thugs make the KKK look like a Sunday school class.

Actually, I'll probably stay and fight, though my soul will be yelling "flight!"

12. Prediction #1:
The world will hate us. I mean despising the ground we walk on. If we go over there as tourists or businessmen, their eyes will narrow, their mouths will turn down, and they will walk away from us.

The taxi cab will refuse to move. People in the train will shut up like clams as they watch us. Not a word is spoken, but EVERYONE KNOWS.

The reason they will hate us is because they feel that Bush stole the election of 2000. They are willing to forgive because like them, we are helplessly watching these animals take apart our country, and theirs as well.

But if he's "legitimately" elected (I use that term loosely), then the gloves are off. I'm not sure if it's going to be possible to move overseas, which is what I was thinking too.

15. RE: "Prediction #1 & Moving to anther country
Just yesterday I was reading about Journalists who were coming to this country being stopped, arrested, and sent back to their country because of some new piece of paper that Ashcroft or one of those goons has determined that they need in addition to passport & other ID already required and complied with. I think they are trying to keep as many journalists out of the country as possible while the Democratic convention is going on. Do they have some surprise in store for the Dems?

They are doing their damndest to keep the news inside this country as well as block most of what we hear. If they are doing this to legitimate journalists what will they do to citizens who try to leave?

We are so close to being ruled by another nasty little Hitler that it's frightening. I am not a praying person normally but I swear that I pray that there is a god and that he will unleash a bolt of lightning before it's too late. I know it won't be Bu$h's god because that one is as fake as Bu$h.

I'm assuming from your avatar that you're in Oregon. Have you thought about Canada?

We've thought about moving overseas as well, but Canada seems much more feasible.

Though, I believe Vancouver is a nice place and would rather put up with earthquakes than Bush.

17. Look for censorship on the internet
... the Bush administration will try to shut down all sources of foreign or alternative news. This will be done by pressuring ISP's to restrict access, or passing draconian laws on what sites ISP's allow access to.

18. the rest of the world will lose faith
in our ability to service our debt - especially when BushCo pushes through permanent tax cuts. The dollar will lose 70% of it's value.
The US depression will drag the rest of the world's economy down with it.

Oh, and I forgot World War 3. That, too.
