"Excuse me, sir....Have you seen my monster?"
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 12:46 PM by SoCalDem
This is the question that ALL the so-called mainstream media folks should be asking?

The monster they have created is vicious, ignorant, bigoted, racist, and self-righteous.

In the fifty-five years I have been on this planet, I have never seen the hatred, vitriol and rudeness that we are subjected to daily. There is such an "us vs them" mentality these days, and it is dangerous.

The media has spent the last 30 years filling people's heads full of nonsense, lies and half-truths, and all one has to do is to listen to some of the ill-informed , sputtering callers to Washington Journal, to know that we are in deep trouble here, folks..

There is "my facts", "your facts", "their facts", and then there are the TRUE facts.. The true facts (AKA un-spun news) are in short supply, and most of the country never even sees or hears them, and if they do, it's in 30 second soundbytes..

Years and years of rightwing radio has convinced the "least of us", that "the other side" wants to kill babies, steal their money to give it to illegal aliens, teach their kids to smoke pot and fornicate, force them to become gay, make them live with "dark" people, take all their guns, and force them to quit believing in God.

Some of us know that this is nonsense, but the "monster" believes this with every breath he takes.. The monster used to just stay close to home and bother his neighbors, but he has escaped into the general community now, and he's a menace..

I think that some of the people in high places may have actually started to realise this, but the monster was never taught any manners, and he's on the loose now..

No matter who wins the election in the fall, the "monster" will not be happy...he never is these days.. The monster must be fed controversy, conspiracy, and constant agitation..

The monster was emboldened in the 90's, and has had many "successes", and he will not be silenced, even if the person he likes, gets elected.. The monster must always attack.. It's in his DNA.. The monster will never be satisfied.. He's out there now, and he likes causing havoc..

The media "created" him, and they succeeded too well.. They thought he could be manipulated whenever they "needed" him, but he cannot be controlled now, and he has no interest in changing his ways..

He's getting bigger and meaner by the day, and he never backs down.

So...pick up a torch, you may need to help them find their monster.. If you see him, please do not attempt to apprehend him yourself..

2. although
these people have been around for years they certainly remained subdued and yes they found a voice..but do the majority of people really believe in what the right wing shills say? i think to much of my fellow Americans to believe they do. i certainly hope so for the good of the country..

3. Lots of people have bought into the right-wing spin
Ask someone that you do not know that well..what they think of some of the "issues"..

You will be startled to learn what a lot of people DO think..

Even if they are NOT a majority, THEIR voices are heard above the fray, because they are meaner and louder..

This was a liberal country from the 30's , until the late 70's.. There is a natural pendulum that swings back and forth, but times are different now, because, in the past, people were not as "connected" as they are now..

A "meme" or talking point of old, would take months to spread.. Now, it's as fast as a mouse-click..

4. The other side of the problem..... is that Dems are spinning too
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 01:12 PM by Kanary
Those vaunted "independents"....... the ones the Dems are courting, and those who don't vote.... the ones we're trying to get registered........ Many in both of those groups are where they are because they are SICK Of The Spinning.

With DEMs doing the same thing, it doesn't present much of a choice.

Until/unless the Dems decide to fully restore their OWN integrity, we got a problem.

5. You're right.. It's prevalent on BOTH sides,
BUT the rightwing microphone is HUGE compared to the leftwing one.

I don't expect it to change anytime soon.. That's the sad part/.

6. Thanks for understanding what I'm saying
And, whether "we're" doing more of it, or "they're" doing more of it, the effect on the voters in the middle is the same...... they're fed up with it, and we lose.

I wish my party was the one of integrity.

I'm saying this because I was sickened this morning to see Byrd, of all people -- that stalwart of the Party, resort to spinning on MTP. I'm angry, hurt and disappointed that he was put in that position.

We Dems have painted ourselves into a very sticky corner.

It pains me.
