My 86 year old Nana and her bridge club are going to see F911
today! I call her this morning, my usual Sunday call to Nana and she tells me that she and the "Girls" are going to see it. She's going to call me tonight and let me know how she liked it.

from her, i was so surprised when she told me she was going. She and her friends have all decided that Bush must go and these ladies are not lefties by any stretch but they are indeed sane.

5. I treated my parents the other night
They're lifelong dems but they do not own a computer and
rely on the TV for their news. I debunk some of the stuff
they hear but it was a lot more effective for them to see
it on the big screen.

My father, in particular, was blown away.

I think the things that affected him most were:

The Saudi and binLaden ties with the Bush family
The early funding of GWB dubious businesses by them
The congressional black caucus being snubbed
The inauguration protests

We went out for a beer afterward and he kept saying,
"you don't see any of that stuff on TV."

Maybe I should buy him a computer.

9. And buy them a copy of OUTFOXED.
That will help them to know how the media works these days. I don't know how old your parents are, but mine are 79 years old and still think there's truth in journalism. OUTFOXED will enlighten them.

12. You know I can't really recall
I was glued to the TV for all of Dec., 2000 but I think I turned away in digust after the selection.

If anybody else knows of this, I'd be grateful to hear what you remember of the coverage. I doubt they aired it but I could be wrong.

19. Me, too.
I made it a point to work hard all day on Inauguration Day.

I refused to even watch that unsurper complete his coup.

It would have broken my heart to see Clinton and Gore that day, anyway.

I never saw it, but if it got any mention, I'll bet it was short-lived.

13. c-span had some coverage live
....but they had one camera only and couldn't capture the scope of the protests. As far as I know, none of the networks showed footage of the protests. I saw a lot on c-span, though. The egging, the stopping at Freedom Plaza so the cops could move up and protect the motorcade for its last dash to the WH.

30. The egg-pelting of the Presidential limo was a shock to most people-
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 10:51 PM by wishlist
I do not recall it ever being shown on the network news. I watched the entire inauguration on network T.V. which sanitized all of the protest coverage as if they were afraid it would incite too much anti-Bush anger around the country. I remember reading a backpage newspaper article about the incredible inauguration protests, but I never saw video of it before F911.

32. Neither do I. I turned to my husband after we'd seen the movie and
asked if he remembered seeing the presidential limo getting egged. He didn't, either. I did not watch the inauguration. Too sickening. I did see and hear coverage of it, afterwards. And I certainly remember the vague and precious few references to "a few protestors." A FEW!!?!?!??!??!??!?!? Hell, you couldn't see down the street for all the protest signs. The whole bloomin' motorcade stopped dead in the middle of the street for all the protestors. And cops. AND camera crews. You could see all the boom mikes above the heads of the crowd. And NONE of that was covered. If they'd even given it "short shrift" that'd have been more generous coverage than there actually was. A FEW!!!!!!! If THAT's "a FEW," then I'm Catherine Zeta Jones.

In fact, at the Kerry party I attended today, a few of us were talking about that very thing. And the consensus was - the ONLY place that's ever been shown (accurately, for what it actually WAS) was in "Fahrenheit 9/11." NOT, in ANY way, shape, or form, on the evening news.

22. OK, just talked to Nana
She thought the movie "Was very good Dear and i think Mr. Bush will lose in November, he's just told too many fibs and he's not very intelligent is he Honey?" Now just so you know, my Nana would never call someone a liar, she's says "Fibber".

Her friend Dot weighed in with.."He's just bad for the country period and he has sold our souls for oil and the blood of all the soldiers and Iraqis is on his hands alone."

Barb said "I've never been so mad in my life, I'm ashamed of what he's done and thank God Arthur (barb's deceased husband) isn't here to see the big pickle this yutz has us in!"

Aunt Pat(Nana's sister, my great Aunt) "Awful, stupid barbaric imbecile." Aunt Pat is the quiet one.

All in all they liked it and were all moved by it but mostly it confirmed what they all thought already. My favorite comment that my Nana made was.."When i look at John Kerry i feel better, he's intelligent and well spoken and doesn't need to be President to enrich his own bank account, he needs to be President to fix this GD mess!"

23. God bless your Nana - smart lady !
Thanks for sharing the report. It's heartening to hear that some of our older folks do get it. I was asking my repub dad tonight if he planned to see it and I thought he would foam at the mouth railing against Moore. My dad's an original John Bircher. Sad that he can't see the truth in what's happening. Glad your Nana can.

27. Several 'soccer moms' in my neighborhood went to see F911 too
and one of them approached me after seeing my Kerry sticker to ask if I had seen the movie and vent about how angry she was about Bush and the war (she has 12 and 14 yr old sons) This movie is really hitting a nerve with lots of people. Total strangers have been coming up to me in stores when I wear my Kerry T-Shirt to talk about F911- some of them haven't seen it yet but are quite interested. Amazing.

I have the highest respect for elders who dont get so stuck in their beleifs that they close their mind to new idea's or refuse to listen . In this case it seems that the opposite is true about Nana. If only all of us would remain open minded as the years pass us by !
