Dark Age Ahead
Jane Jacobs

Description: From Powell's Bookstore in Portland, Oregon,
sociologist and author Jane Jacobs discusses her newest book,
"Dark Age Ahead." The book examines five key aspects of modern
life that the author sees as the pillars of a successful culture, all of
which seem to her to be in serious decline. These pillars are:
scientific progress, family, taxes and government, pursuit of higher
education, and self-policing. Ms. Jacobs writes that at the base of
this downfall are racism, the widening gap between the wealthy and
poor, and environmental problems which the author claims if left
unaided, will result in cultural decay.

Author Bio: Jane Jacobs is the author of numerous books including
"The Death and Life of Great American Cities," "Systems of
Survival," and "The Economy of Cities."

Speaking of refuting the talking points refutation..... :) Did anyone see this?

1. Jane Jacobs
Thanks for the tip. I saw her speak on a panel a couple of weeks ago and was amazed. She was an eminent scholar whose work I studied when I took urban sociology some decades ago, and I didn't know that she is still thinking and writing and discussing.

2. I saw Mark Smith.
I was disappointed, actually, because I had anticipated a higher level of discussion from him. His tactic appears to be to reduce any honest debating point from the democrats or left, and making cheesy responses that might make his friends wet their pants, but which are shallow. He does quote from the left-leaning internet sites, however, and keeping this in mind, I'd like to ask him what he thinks should happen to people who expose the identity of CIA operatives? Gotta funny one-liner for that one?

3. I guess that's not really surprising
Because, in reality, they don't have much to stand on, eh?

I haven't seen the book, so I appreciate your assessment.

Where did you see him?
