Bev: Try to push for paper ballots
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 04:14 PM by shraby
at all polling places. It occurred to me that many of the voting machines..electronic and others run on electricity. If there was a large power failure there would be no way for people in those areas affected to vote.

Congratulations on the good work you've been doing for us, but we also need papaer ballots.

1. Noooooooo!!!!!
I went to election school and was an assistant election judge in a Texas precinct for the March primary, our first HAVA election. Most of our provisional ballots were NOT counted and are NOT INTENDED to be counted. In our county, only 4 out of 26 provisional ballots were counted.

Provisional ballots are used when the individual does not otherwise appear to be allowed to vote in a particular precinct, e.g. their name is not on the voter list and they do not have a valid voter registration card with them.

2. So do you have an answer to this potential problem?

Not to hassle you, just wondering if the teachers brought it up in elections school!

3. What I intend is that some sort
of paper ballots are available in case the power goes out. I'll re-write my original post. Thanks.

4. Please see the MPACS solution for 2004
MPACS stands for manual parallel accounting control system. It's the standard procedure used in government and industry when a new computer system is introduced.

This is one of the key issues of the National Ballot Integrity Project. See www.ballotintegrity.org and click on "2004 Solution" ... also check the forums there which have an MPACS conference.
