Powell urges PoW status for al-Qaeda captives

Afghanistan - Observer special

Ed Vulliamy in New York
Sunday January 27, 2002
The Observer

The US Secretary of State Colin Powell has urged President Bush to declare al-Qaeda and Taliban prisoners held at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba and elsewhere prisoners of war, with protection under the Geneva Conventions.

<snip>
__________

Powell must have known what his bosses were up to when they resisted granting POW status to prisoners captured in Afghanistan and elsewhere. He also must have known what was about to happen.

1. oh come on. we all knew
all the nasty scandals that we at du know about are common knowledge inside the beltway.

democrats are frustrated that they can't seem to turn anything into a full-blown media sensation, and republicans know they can get away with worse and worser because the media simply refuses to do damage to shrub and the republicans.

we may have a press that's not owned by the govermnent, but i wouldn't exactly call it a free press....

2. Powell was soldier and he knew there would be terrible fury at our
military people if we mistreated the prisoners we took. The Chicken Hawks just don't care about stuff like that. They can't relate because the refuse to relate.

The beheadings are a result of the Chicken Hawks'/neocon bastards' actions. And they dare accuse any who dissent from their heinous policies of not supporting the troops.

The arrogance of the junta is beyond words.
