No one mentions this about the Gay Marriage Ban.
There is a lot of talk about how the christian right is behind the amendment,(and of course they are) but who really profits from the ban?
Isn't it obvious that it would cost the big corporate players if they had to give benefits to gay partners. "Lets do anything to help the bottom line, folks"
They would never come out publicly for it, but I bet there is some intense lobbying going on with their repub cronies.

1. Not entirely true....a substansial number of large companies already offer
...insurance to domestic partners.

2. You are right..
I shouldn't paint the whole business world with one brush.
But I do think this is a component of the effort. There is alway a difference between what corporations do voluntarily (and thus can be rescinded) and making it the law of the land.

4. You have a point. While some insurance companies cover domestic
partners, I would wage damned few pension funds do. And Social Security is right up there among those who don't.

5. wrong
There are plenty of companies that do give benefits to partners. And there aren't enough gay couples concentrated in the right places to make a difference.

This is just a way to rally the conservative base. Nothing more. You should write to Mary Cheney and tell her to stand up for her community. Maybe daddy will listen to his little girl.

6. Read the fine print..
it would also negate domestic partnerships! So, the corporations would benefit!

7. Just as I wasn't right to lump in all corporations together...
in my initial post. You are wrong to flatly say this is "wrong".
Just as this administration is doing the corporations' work in overtime pay, workplace safety and medical coverage, this also would benefit them. And yet I have not seen this mentioned in the media (you know, the corporate shills). If corporations are so forward looking and progressive on this, how come no one from their ranks has spoken out against the amendment?
