Poll question: What would it take to turn us completely into the world of Orwell's 1984?
I reread 1984 today. It was the first time since the 80's that I read it.

There are so many parallels:

Constant War.

Rewriting history.

The misleading use of language.

Al Gore as Emmanuel Goldstein - they don't listen to what he says just how he says it.

The Two minutes Hate.

In fact, I think it's even worse than what 1984 depicted. At least there was some hope of a proletarian uprise in the novel.

The government has succeeded in making sure all citizens across the entire social spectrum are constantly surveilled, dependent on the system, and gradually disarmed.

6. I made my high school English classes read it in the spring and
do their exit project on the themes of the book. It actually got some of their attention. We already have the screens watching us; they are now even in our house through our computers and at our libraries. Do you remember the part where the enemy changed in mid-speech? If we do not win this election, we can kiss democracy as we know it good-bye. As the man said tonight on "Outfoxed," we owe it to our children and grandchildren not to let that happen.
