loved that movie (saw it twice). Did a great job showing how fundamentalism sucks the life out of true Christianity. Plus, I've been in love with Jena Malone since I first saw Donnie Darko

4. Yes, I saw it about two weeks ago |
|
I hate to use a cliche but I thought it was a cute movie.
It definitely bitch slapped the right winged faith based hypocrites but it had a feel good ending.
The way the holy rollers were carrying on about it I thought (hoped)it would be much more hard hitting, but I still liked it!

7. Definitely NOT anti-Christian at all |
|
I thought it was a riot too. The ending was very positive and even Mandy Moore's insufferable character, while she got her comeuppance, was treated with compassion. The fundies like Falwell who have panned it have not even seen it.

6. I read about it and can't wait to see it. |

That's one of my main complaints with the reichwing is their presumed hijacking of the Bible...even though I don't get into that I think it's one of the biggest shams of the 20th and 21st century.
I hear Mandy Moore does a good job.

8. I've seen it twice, too ... |

I thought it was a very God-affirming movie, respectful to a BELIEF in God, while still skewering the self-righteous Fundies who think they have all the answers (and that their answers must be foisted upon EVERYONE in their path!).
It was perfectly cast, too ... Mandy Moore, McCauley Culkin, Jena Malone, Patrick Fugit and the other young actors ... all of them were wonderful! And Eva Amurri (Susan Sarandon's daughter with director Franco Amurri) is marvelous as the wild, subversive Jewish girl in the Christian school.
Two thumbs WAY up!
Oh ... and you'll enjoy the cover of the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows (What I'd be Without You)" sung over the credits, by Mandy Moore and Michael Stipe (a producer of the movie).
I was very heavily involved in the born-again Christian movement back in high school (before I woke up and grew up!), so the movie was very meaningful to me. I cried a few times during the movie, remembering the moments back then, when I realized the particular brand of religion I'd been following was self-righteous, narrow-minded, rigid and ridiculous (though I don't think I was EVER as bad as Mandy Moore's "Hillary Fay").

I was afraid it was going to be like "The Passion" for teenagers. It's really brave of Mandy Moore to play a role like this, kudos to her.

10. Two different theaters, two different responses |
|
The first time I saw "Saved!" it was playing in the regular old multi-plex. Though I live in a conservative area, the audience was pretty large. And there was some laughter, though there were spots in the movie I thought were so witty, so devastatingly spot-on about Fundies that I felt I should guffaw out loud, and the crowd didn't seem to be quite as amused. They laughed, but in a polite sort of way.
The second time I saw it, it was playing in the local art/foreign/indie film theater. And people were laughing their asses off. Not to be snotty, but the latter theater just attracts a more discriminating brand of filmgoer most of the time. They "got" this film.
Definitely not a "Passion of the Christ" for teen-agers.
